Tuesday Toolbox: Mike WitkowskiMarch 3, 2020Mike Witkowski is off to a promising start in the XC2 class. The 21-year old was signed by Am/Pro Yamaha this season, and it is clear the faith they put in him was not misplaced. Though originally from Indiana, he has since moved to South Carolina to be closer to his new team’s headquarters.
Big Buck GNCC: Youth Bike Race ReportMarch 3, 2020The opening round of the 2020 GNCC series, and AMA National Championship, took place last weekend on February 22nd and 23rd. Big Buck has been on the series schedule since 1997, and is a classic GNCC course. It is an open and fast course, but don’t mistake that for being an easy one – it gets plenty rough!

Tuesday Toolbox: Hannah HunterFebruary 25, 2020At last year’s Mountaineer GNCC, seventeen-year old Hannah Hunter took home her first WXC win, but I was already interviewing some of the 2019 champions, so I couldn’t fit her in right away. I told her I would catch up with her eventually. Then as I was getting ready to do her interview, she went and barely edged out Traci Pickens for the win at the opening round last weekend. So, here is her belated, yet still very timely Tuesday Toolbox interview.
Tuesday Toolbox: Allan BrownFebruary 18, 2020Allan Brown has worked in the motorcycle industry most of his life – as a mechanic, race team manager, and most recently a test rider and staff writer for Dirt Rider Magazine. Despite being a west coast guy from Riverside, California, he was also a dedicated GNCC racer last season, making the long trek to our side of the Mississippi for each and every round. His dedication was rewarded with several podium finishes and a class title in the Super Senior A class.
Tuesday Toolbox: Colby GoodmanFebruary 4, 2020Colby Goodman is a nine year old who hails from Olin, North Carolina. Goodman was only going to race a handful of GNCC events int 2019, but when he started winning and keeping up with the front of the pack the family decided to race the whole series. Goodman earned himself the Micro Bike National Championship after earning seven class wins and five micro overall wins throughout the season. This year he will be competing in the 65cc (7-9) class as well and hopes to reel in that championship.
Tuesday Toolbox: Tayla JonesJanuary 28, 2020For the third straight year, Tayla Jones is the motorcycle WXC National Champion. While she was again able to take home the title, a mid-season injury nearly derailed her year and turned the WXC championship into a nail-biter that came down to the last few races. Tayla will be with Husqvarna again this year, racing both the GNCC and Sprint Enduro series, as well as representing Team Australia at the ISDE.
Tuesday Toolbox: Khyler DavisJanuary 21, 2020Khyler Davis won the Micro ATV overall in 2019. The nine-year old from Bolt, West Virginia took home four overall wins this year and rarely finished outside of the top five, even though she spent most of the year starting from the second row in MXC2. This upcoming season will be her third year racing GNCC. She hopes to win another Micro Overall and plans to compete in the Youth Girls class as well – and hopes to someday race WXC. Keep an eye out for Davis, we expect great things out of her!
Tuesday Toolbox: Ashley HendershotJanuary 7, 2020Ashley Hendershot won the first-ever Specialized Turbo eMTB GNCC Women’s National Championship in 2019 and is looking forward to another season of eMTB racing – hopefully with a little more competition this time! Though the 31-year old from Mansfield, Ohio, was definitely a bicycle enthusiast before last year, she had very little racing experience and had actually never ridden an eBike prior to her first GNCC. Her husband is an ATV racer, who also won a title last year in the Vet B class and her son races mountain bikes… so you could say that racing of all kinds is very much a family activity for the Hendershots.
Tuesday Toolbox: John Glauda Jr.December 17, 2019This year’s XC2 champion is John Glauda Jr. He is originally from New Jersey, but like many other GNCC racers, has migrated south and is now living in North Carolina. This is the eighteen-year-old’s second season racing pro. He plans to move up to XC1 next season, because he believes he will progress further than he would defending his XC2 title.
Tuesday Toolbox: Damien HawkinsDecember 3, 2019Damien Hawkins is an up-and-coming racer from Bear Branch, Kentucky. The thirteen-year-old won the YXC1 supermini class title this year, and won six consecutive races. He plans to move up to the adult race next season and compete Schoolboy Senior class. Like many promising young riders, he also hopes to go pro someday.
