Tuesday Toolbox: Charlie MullinsJanuary 14, 2020The name Charlie Mullins is familiar to most GNCC fans, but his current exploits might not be. After retiring from professional racing, he found a new passion in bicycle racing. When GNCC started an eMTB racing series, it was a perfect fit. The 33-year old Mullins is the first-ever Specialized Turbo eMTB GNCC National Champion, as well as earning accolades in several other bicycle disciplines. -
Tuesday Toolbox: Ashley HendershotJanuary 7, 2020Ashley Hendershot won the first-ever Specialized Turbo eMTB GNCC Women’s National Championship in 2019 and is looking forward to another season of eMTB racing – hopefully with a little more competition this time! Though the 31-year old from Mansfield, Ohio, was definitely a bicycle enthusiast before last year, she had very little racing experience and had actually never ridden an eBike prior to her first GNCC. Her husband is an ATV racer, who also won a title last year in the Vet B class and her son races mountain bikes… so you could say that racing of all kinds is very much a family activity for the Hendershots. -
Tuesday Toolbox: John Glauda Jr.December 17, 2019This year’s XC2 champion is John Glauda Jr. He is originally from New Jersey, but like many other GNCC racers, has migrated south and is now living in North Carolina. This is the eighteen-year-old’s second season racing pro. He plans to move up to XC1 next season, because he believes he will progress further than he would defending his XC2 title. -
Tuesday Toolbox: Damien HawkinsDecember 3, 2019Damien Hawkins is an up-and-coming racer from Bear Branch, Kentucky. The thirteen-year-old won the YXC1 supermini class title this year, and won six consecutive races. He plans to move up to the adult race next season and compete Schoolboy Senior class. Like many promising young riders, he also hopes to go pro someday. -
Tuesday Toolbox: Landon WolfeNovember 26, 2019This year’s 4x4 Pro National Champion is Landon Wolfe, from Glenville, PA. This is the 25-year old’s first pro title. After deciding to retire from the XC1 class and full-time racing in 2017, he happened to borrow a 4x4 at Ironman and pilot it to a 4x4 Pro class win. After that, he rethought his retirement and instead switched classes. -
Tuesday Toolbox: Jesse AnsleyNovember 12, 2019Jesse Ansley, from Myakka City, Florida, was able to successfully defend his FMF XC3 125cc Pro-Am National Championship this season. The nineteen-year-old is currently 2-for-2 in his pro racing career. At the season finale in Indiana, Ansley made the move up to XC2 250 Pro and will continue to run that class for the 2020 season. -
Tuesday Toolbox: Kailub RussellOctober 29, 2019Despite a shoulder injury forcing him to sit out the last round and pull in early at the Mountaineer, Kailub Russell was able to win his seventh GNCC XC1 title! The 29-year old from Boonville, North Carolina may be finished with GNCCs for the season, but in a matter of days he will be headed to Portugal to represent the USA in the International Six Days Enduro. -
Tuesday Toolbox: Walker FowlerOctober 22, 2019Walker Fowler recently wrapped up his fifth-straight GNCC ATV National Championship. Since we have interviewed Walker quite a bit over the years, we decided to ask a little less about his season and a little more about him personally – to give us a chance to get to know the man under the helmet a little better. -
Tuesday Toolbox: Ben KelleyOctober 15, 2019Ben Kelley won the overall and XC1 class for the first time last weekend at the Mountaineer. That statement is impressive enough on its own, but when you add the fact that this is only his second time racing the XC1 class and that 3 years ago he was virtually an unknown rider racing locally in New England, it becomes downright incredible! Twenty-three-year-old Kelley wrapped up the XC2 title early this year, so decided to bump up to XC1 in preparation for the 2020 season. Kelley has a bright future ahead of him in GNCC racing, and we look forward to watching him over the next several years! -
Tuesday Toolbox: Liam DraperOctober 8, 2019Liam Draper earned his first-ever XC2 250 Pro class win at the Mason-Dixon GNCC a few weeks ago. The twenty-two year-old from New Zealand is currently living in in Waynesburg PA, where the Tely Energy race team he rides for is based out of. This is Draper’s second season of racing GNCCs. He came to the states to try and make a living as a racer because he was on the top in NZ and there was nothing left for him back home. He just wrapped up the NEPG title last weekend, and we expect to see similarly great things out of him next year in the GNCCs. -
Tuesday Toolbox: Traci PickensOctober 1, 2019Traci Pickens is the most successful female racer in GNCC history. At Mason-Dixon she wrapped up her 12th WXC title! She credits her long and successful career to stubbornness and the many people who have helped her out over the years. The 43 year-old hails from Shamokin Pennsylvania and works as a physical therapist during the week. For the Pickens family, race weekends are family time. Her husband races, and their son just started racing in the Micro division this year. -
Tuesday Toolbox: Barry and Talon HawkSeptember 24, 2019Barry Hawk is a legend in the sport, the only GNCC racer to win XC1 titles on both a bike and an ATV. GNCC racing is an important part of their family’s DNA. Now, he and his fourteen-year-old son Talon are involved in the newest addition to GNCC – eMTB racing. Both have had great seasons so far, with Talon leading his class and Barry 3rd in points. Keep an eye out for them at the Mason-Dixon GNCC this weekend – it is only fourteen miles from their home in Smithfield, Pennsylvania. I’m sure they will both be putting in strong rides, and if all goes well, Talon might be wrapping up the Youth eMTB championship!
