Tuesday Toolbox: Randy Hawkins May 26, 2009 Randy Hawkins is an icon in the off-road industry, and that's why the AMA just announced he's going into their motorcycling Hall of Fame. Randy's seven AMA National Enduro Championships alone would qualify him as a hall-of-famer but he has done so much more, from managing and owning the Am-Pro FMF Yamaha team, to hosting the GNCC University school at Snowshoe, to producing a new DVD called Champions at Play. Why does Randy do it all? Because he loves the sport. Here's a conversation with the true southern gentleman of off-road racing.
Tuesday Toolbox: Mike Benson May 19, 2009 Mike Benson has been around for a long time in GNCC racing-nearly 30 years, in fact. For the last three, he's been battling in the GNCC U2 class in the ATV morning race, battling for class and overall wins. Mike came close over and over, but he finally pulled one out at Mountain Ridge. Here's more on Mike.
Tuesday Toolbox Too: QuadZone May 12, 2009 Gary Belbeck has a lot on his plate this season. Along with assisting with the website at www.QuadZone.com and helping XC2 rider Brian Wolf run a successful season, Belbeck races himself. This weekend, Belbeck and the Quad Zone team will organize a benefit cookout on Friday night at the Mountain Ridge GNCC. The website celebrates its fifth anniversary this year, and the big cookout at the track will generate proceeds for RiderDown.org. With everything on his plate Belbeck emphasizes keeping racers and fans alike happy and healthy through the use of his Web site and charity benefits.
- Tuesday Toolbox: Jason Thomas May 12, 2009 Monster Energy/ Andrews Yamaha's Jason Thomas is looking for a few things. First of which, is a GNCC XC2 Championship and secondly --a girlfriend. Thomas came over to the U.S. all on his lonesome after growing up basically in the Welsh Forest in Wales. He is doing consistently well in the XC2 ranks. What's his secret? Thomas said being here alone makes him even more determined than the rest.
- Tuesday Toolbox: Chris Meadows May 5, 2009 Chris Meadows juggles life as an 8th grade student while racing in the Super-mini(14-15) class. Meadows had a rough year last season, filled with bad luck. But this season, things have changed for the 14-year-old. He's taken first overall in the last three rounds. Meadows' goal is to win the Youth Championship and maybe, one day soon, get factory support.
Tuesday Toolbox: Glen Pritchard April 28, 2009 50-year-old Glen Pritchard has been first in the Super Senior class all five rounds of the 2009 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series. Pritchard has only been racing since 2005, and has a full-time job. He just accomplished one of his main goals at the Acerbis Loretta Lynn by winning the Morning Race ATV overall, beating out factory-supported and more experienced competition. Glen took a break from work to tell us a little bit about how he accomplishes it all.
Tuesday Toolbox: Bill Ballance April 21, 2009 Bill Ballance has overcome a lot this season. First he had a cancer scare, which ended in surgery to have a tumor and ribs removed. Then, while still recovering from surgery, he DNFed in Florida and Georgia. He finally got on the podium at Steele Creek and has been there since, getting on the top spot of the podium this weekend at the Acerbis Loretta Lynn's. Will Ballance grab number 10 and retire or will he back next season?
Tuesday Toolbox: Angel Atwell April 14, 2009 Angel Atwell almost sat out this season after racing for a few years without factory support. KTM swooped in to sign her on and three weeks later she was in Florida with a new quad. Four rounds into the season, and she has yet to lose a race. Can she keep it up to win the championship?
Tuesday Toolbox: Kailub Russell April 7, 2009 At the Big Buck GNCC, Shock Doctor KTM's Kailub Russell achieved what only one other XC2 rider in the history of GNCC has been able to do-cross the finish line in the top three overall. The son of AMA National Enduro Champion Jeff Russell, he was born into racing-starting competitively at age 4. But don't think it's that easy. Let's see how Russell pulled off his incredible finish.
Tuesday Toolbox: Josh Strang March 31, 2009 After an unlucky start at the River Ranch GNCC, Josh Strang is coming back full force, taking 3rd at the General GNCC and 1st at Steele Creek. He looks to win again at Big Buck this week to tighten up the ranks. Can he keep his momentum going and come out with the 2009 GNCC Championship?
Tuesday Toolbox: Bryan Cook March 24, 2009 Bryan Cook had up and down results in his first few years racing in the GNCC pro ranks, but now, as a privateer riding for childhood friend Santo Derisi, he's moving up in the ranks - winning the weekend's Steele Creek GNCC and moving into fourth overall in the early-season standings. Cook doesn't have factory support, or the recognition, of other factory riders that he beat this weekend. He also works a full time job. How does he manage it all? And why doesn't he get more attention?
Tuesday Toolbox: Glenn Kearney March 19, 2009 Husqvarna's Glenn Kearney had high hopes for a GNCC Championship this season, but he broke his leg just 19 days before the season started in Florida. Amazingly, he scored 10th in the XC1 Class at the opener, anyway, riding in pain. This weekend, this Australian transplant gets to race in his adopted home of North Carolina, and his leg is getting better. Can Glenn fight through the pain and get back to the front of the pack?
