Tuesday Toolbox: Stefy BauJuly 10, 2018Most people reading this will know the name of Stefy Bau. Before a career-ending crash, she was one of the fastest female motocross racers in the world. Not only did she win a number of women’s titles, she also qualified for a pro license and competed with the men. Now she is the CEO of Fantic USA, an importer of the Fantic eBicyles you have probably seen zooming around the pits. I stopped to take with Stefy at Snowshoe regarding her career, both as a racer and CEO, and the relationship between eBikes and the GNCC series.
AMSOIL Snowshoe GNCC Women’s Race ReportJuly 2, 2018On the weekend of June 23 and 24, the ninth round of the 2018 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series, an AMA National Championship took place at the Snowshoe Mountain Resort. Snowshoe is one of the more gnarly races on the GNCC circuit, as well as one of the toughest courses in the country. In a throwback to the famed Blackwater 100, the start is a live-engine downhill start on the main street of Snowshoe village.
Tuesday Toolbox: Keith WeimerJune 19, 2018The smiling face of Keith Weimer, from Rockwood, PA is the first thing most GNCC racers and fans will see when they arrive at the track for a weekend of fun. Keith has been in charge of gatekeeping at the GNCCs for sixteen seasons now. Since almost everyone knows him, but few people know much about him, he seemed like a good Tuesday Toolbox candidate. I spoke with Keith during the PM bike race of The General - one of the only times he didn’t have to be out watching the entrance to the track.
Dunlop Tomahawk GNCC Women’s Race ReportJune 18, 2018Round eight of the 2018 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series, an AMA National Championship took place on June 9th and 10th in Odessa, New York. The Dunlop Tomahawk is best known for its long, sweeping grass track sections, which usually get dusty. However, there are sections of loose rock on the hills that riders climb, and there are plenty of exposed tree roots as well.
Tuesday Toolbox: Liam DraperJune 12, 2018Liam Draper is the latest Kiwi to come over and try his luck in the GNCC series. The twenty-one year old was sent over on the recommendation of Paul Whibley and has been competing in the XC2 250 Pro class, where he currently sits in seventh. There have been a lot of ups and downs for him this season, with finishes ranging from fourth to eighteenth. I caught up with Liam at last weekend’s Tomahawk GNCC to ask him how he ended up here, how long he plans to stay, and what some of his goals are for the future.
Tuesday Toolbox: Leon HansonJune 5, 2018Leon Hanson, a 27-year-old mechanic for the Rockstar Husqvarna, was the winner of GNCCs first-ever eMTB race at The Wiseco John Penton GNCC on Friday evening. Though he started out on dirt bikes, for the last two years he has been involved in (regular) mountain bike racing around his home of Murrieta, California.
The Wiseco John Penton GNCC Women’s Race ReportJune 5, 2018On May 26 and May 27 round seven of the 2018 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series, an AMA National Championship took place. The Wiseco John Penton is hosted at Sunday Creek Raceway, a motocross track in Southern Ohio which frequently hosts Loretta Lyn’s Amateur National Motocross qualifiers.
Tuesday Toolbox: Haedyn MickelsonMay 29, 2018Haedyn Mickelson races in both the ATV Motocross (ATVMX) and GNCC Series. The twenty-year-old is now in his second year of GNCC racing, and is currently leading the 4x4 A class points. He is also leading the Pro-Am class points in the ATVMX Series. He is originally from Minnesota, but he and his family recently relocated to North Carolina.
X-Factor Whitetails GNCC Women’s Race ReportMay 22, 2018Round six of the 2018 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series, an AMA National Championship took place on Saturday, April 21st and Sunday, April 22nd.
Tuesday Toolbox: Ticket To Ride WinnersMay 15, 2018The Ticket to Ride giveaway was introduced in 2013. At the GNCC awards banquet the top-10 riders in each PM class and some select AM classes are entered in a drawing to win a trip to the Moab desert in Utah. Winners bring one guest along on the epic riding trip hosted by (and courtesy of) the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC crew. The two ATV and side-by-side winners will navigate the trails on UTVs, while the two motorcycle winners are loaned 450cc motorcycles for the excursion. This year’s winners who were able to attend were Dwight Pollard (4x4 pro), Colin Keegan (XC3) and Kasey Belt (Junior A/B 25+). Their trip took place last week, so GNCCRacing.com caught up with them to ask about their experiences out west.
Tuesday Toolbox: Pascal RaucheneckerMay 8, 2018Pascal Rauchenecker made quite a splash last year at Ironman. Despite that round being his first-ever GNCC, the 25 year old from Austria won the stacked XC2 250 Pro class, beating out the likes of Josh Toth, Ben Kelly and Austin Lee. This year he has yet to take a win, but has been on the XC2 podium almost every round. Since international calls are cost-prohibitive, I emailed Pascal to ask him about his racing career before GNCC, and what he hopes to accomplish while he’s here.
Tuesday Toolbox: Jeremy LeDonneMay 1, 2018If the name Jeremy LeDonne sounds familiar, you might be remembering the 21-year old from Pennsylvania because of his time racing the ATV motocross Nationals, or from winning the Badass award last season. A horrifying crash several years ago while racing ATV motocross left him with such severe injuries that he was paralyzed for a year and doctors told him that he might never walk again, much less ride. The now-22 year-old underwent rigorous physical therapy and a number of surgeries. He was able to start racing again a few years ago, and decided to give GNCCs a try because the racing “is a little slower speed and is closer to the ground.” He is leading both the Motorcycle 250cc College C class and the ATV College B class, and actually has a perfect season so far in the latter.
