Welcome to Quick Fill.
It’s once again time to go GNCC Racing, and because there’s so much going on at the track right now, well, this week’s edition of Quick Fill will be on the quick side. Yeah, I know it seems like we’ve had a lot of those this year but that’s because it’s been a wildly busy year for us. We do want to give a quick run down of what to expect this weekend, so we’ll jump right into all the Quick Fill goodies and get you back to the task at hand preparing for this weekend’s Mason-Dixon GNCC.
First off, we’ve got a full weekend! In addition to the racing there’s a bunch of other things going on at the track. Our friends at Team Faith will be doing a bake sale on Saturday from 11am to 4pm. We’ll also be having the 4th Annual Mowgli Memorial Dog Show on Saturday evening at 7pm, and that will be followed by the Inaugural Pit Bike State Championship event. As always, you can get all the details on the event page at https://gnccracing.com/event/mason-dixon
Also, due to extremely dry conditions, campfires will not be allowed this weekend. It’s pretty dry there and the grassy parking areas are especially dry, so please try to abide by this rule as this area actually has a ban on burning in effect at the moment. With that said, be expecting some dusty conditions out on the race track but we’ve already been running the water truck on the roads and grass track areas. The woods are a different story but the good news is that since the Mathews Farm facility only sees racing once a year, thick grass cover has helped to keep a little more moisture in the dirt here. It will still get really dry, but not as bad as other areas!
As for the track, we’ll go ahead and talk a bit about that. As I mentioned, extremely dry conditions are plaguing the area and with that came the extremely difficult decision to skip the High Point Raceway property this year. The fields and woods on the High Point property are dangerously dry and while we’re very disappointed to skip that portion of track this year, we’d be way more disappointed if we did race it and cause someone to get hurt. Like I said, the Mathews Farm property had thick grass covering the majority of the trails but since High Point Raceway sees several events throughout the year, it doesn’t get the grass cover and is very, very dry.
However, just because we’re skipping that section doesn’t mean we don’t have a really great track in store. In fact, it actually allowed us to focus on cutting in a lot of brand new trail on the West Virginia portion of the Mathews Farm property. You’ll take off from the start and run a section of trail you’re only using for the start. It brings you across the road by the front gate and straight past the finish line. You’ll bypass the finish that first time by and head out into the woods. The first mile is a lot of new trail with some fun up and downhill sections before you pop out into a bit of grass track.
This brings you back through a tall fence and into the woods once again heading to the two-mile mark. You’ll run through some trail from last year, up into the pro pits, then back into the woods once again and head to the three-mile mark. It gets a little faster from the three to four-mile mark, and this continues to somewhere around the four and a half when you cross the Mason-Dixon line into West Virginia. You’re running some tight, twisty, brand new trail over to the five-mile mark that continues around to the six, seven, eight and almost all the way to the nine-mile mark.
All of this is twisty, slower, old-school trail that has a lot of really fun up, down and off-camber sections. If you’re looking to ride some really fun woods trails at this event, then no doubt this will be your favorite section of the course. Just before the nine, you’ll cross back into Pennsylvania and into some medium speed trail to the nine. That brings you to a short little grass track before dropping into some more new trail down a slightly technical downhill. At the bottom of that hill, you’ll pick up a little bit of faster trail that slows down a little heading up to the ten-mile mark.
After the ten, you’ll drop into another tight section of trail that zig-zags back and forth across the side of a hill near the front gate. This brings you up into the finish area, and that’s the full eleven mile lap at the Mason-Dixon. This is definitely shaping up to be a great event, and while it will be a bit dry it’s also going to be a welcome relief for many after we’ve seen so many wet races for such a long time! Well, that’s going to do it for this week! Enjoy your weekend and we’ll see you on the Mason-Dixon line!
