SUBJECT: COMPETITION BULLETIN 2016-9:  UTV Horns 

Section D. 5 (Equipment) of the 2016 GNCC UTV Competition Rules provides that only air horns with a maximum capacity of one ounce are permitted in the XC1 and XC2 classes to alert other teams that are about to be overtaken.  The air horn was initially designated as that was the only known option available at the time.  Since the enactment of the initial rule electric horns have become viable and affordable options, so long as they are activated by a button and not an on/off switch, provided the horn sound like an automobile or air horn and not a siren or other emergency vehicle device.

Accordingly, effective immediately, the rule with regard to horns has been amended as follows:

D.5. For the XC1 and XC2 classes only, no more than one (1) horn device per team is permitted for alerting competitors that are about to be overtaken. Horns must be activated by a button and not a switch.  Air/electric horns are permitted; Sirens are prohibited.  Horn volume and tone will be at the sole discretion of GNCC Racing.  Otherwise, no horns, bells or other sound devices permitted in any class. 

Although we prefer not to make equipment rule changes during the race season, in this case a change was deemed in the best interest of the teams affected.
