Slightly Bent Racing Race Report from The General

Well that was fast! After a very short 6 day break, we find ourselves right back in the woods for some GNCC racing! This time we leave the sand of Florida behind and head about 6 hours north to the famous Aonia Pass Motocross Park and the red Georgia clay. A staple of the GNCC tour since 2003, this track is sure to give you a taste of what the rest of the schedule looks like with tight woods, deep ruts, exposed roots, and all around rough conditions. If you pushed a little too hard in Florida last week, I’m sure your feeling it now.
Starting off with our morning riders we have the #414 of Colton White who unfortunately fell victim to mechanical failure when his quad lost 2nd gear on lap 2. Making the decision to hang it up before any further damage was done knocked him back into the 6th position for the day. 16-18C rider, Daniel Gwinn started off strong putting the Wiseco Pistons backed Suzuki with the front of the pack, but a failing tie rod end would force him to settle on the 7th position. The United Cycle Honda with Silver Masters 55+ rider Donnie Pruett on the bars ended his day with another 2nd place finish. And to round off the morning classes we saw the return of #821 Jason Gautier with the 35+C class. After getting the first race jitters out of the way, Jason made a steady climb each lap and ended in the 9th position.
And now the afternoon riders take the track starting off with Andrew Donahue in the College B class. It seems like Murphy’s law was written just for Andrew at this race as his quad was not going to cooperate with the Georgia terrain leaving him with those three letters that every racer despises, DNF. I expect he will go into Steele Creek having something to say about that. Next we move up an age bracket to the Vet B class with Dan Webb and Cliff Vowell. A consistent showing from each of these riders as Dan held on to his 8th place for the entire race and Cliff held on to the 13th position. Senior A/B rider Rusty Repass had a very impressive holeshot and remained at the front of the class until his chain came off on the last lap. Rusty acted quickly and managed to get moving again, but unfortunately the damage was done and he ended his day in the 5th position.
That puts the lid on this year’s The General presented by Maxxis Tires. Mechanical issues seemed to be the order of the day for team Slightly Bent, but that’s how it goes in the world of off-road racing. I’m sure the only thing on everyone’s mind on the drive home was getting the machines ready for Steele Creek. Change your oil, make your adjustments, and we’ll see you in 2 weeks.
