Obermeyer Race Report from The General

It has been a mixed bag so far this season after 2 GNCC rounds for the Team Suzuki Riders. The conditions were extremely muddy and wet as the Georgia rain beat down before and during the grueling event that took its toll on man and machine. In the pro XC1 class, Nick Davis got a mid pack start and started riding smooth and was able to make his was to 6th before finding himself squeezing the brakes to no avail! The wet mud had most all racers braving the terrain with the lack of brakes and actually making pit stops to put on new brake pads. Davis remounted his RM-Z450 and put his head down to make up time.

He would claw his way back as high as 9th place before his day was cut short when the water had its way and drowned out in the deep water.  Nick was very disappointed as his Works Enduro Rider suspension had him sticking to the slick Georgia clay like glue. As the rain stopped the mud was getting sticky and causing machine issues for many, so sticky that the flying roost from the riders rear tires were clogging the exhaust outlet and hampering performance. With keen pit strategy and quick brake pad stops Jake Froman was able to finish a solid third place in the ultra competitive Light A class.

Team mate and fellow class contender Cole Kirchoff who was a 3rd place finisher in Florida, was bitten by the brake pad gremlin “Georgia Clay” the set him to the back of the pack. He stopped for fuel and goggles and decided to tough it out. His last lap push was enough to put him in the top ten.

Nick will be competing this weekend in the National Hare Scramble series and Jake and Cole will head south to contest the Mid-South Cross Country series.
