At their December 2, 2013 Yadkin County Board of Commissioners Meeting, the Board adopted a resolution honoring Kailub Russell, a Yadkin County resident, as the 2013 Grand National Cross Country Champion. Kailub Russell competed in all 13 races of the 2013 GNCC XC1 Pro Championship series and won 7 of the races.  The races are off road races that are over 3 hours long so the competitors are top athletes that possess exceptional skills and fitness.  Chairman of the Board Kevin Austin stated, “I know how much work and dedication go into winning a championship due to having been involved in the sport for many years.”
