For this annual “Pink Race,”à competitors donned pink number plates and got in the pink spirit to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The special event also raised money for the Faith Alliance, a breast cancer resource in the Crawfordsville area. Several GBC riders took some time out to visit local schools, educating kids about standing up against bullying and overcoming obstacles in life.
The first to grab a class win for GBC on the day was Forrest Whorton, who continued his domination of the 4x4 Senior class. Bryan Buckhannon looked to be on the way to another win but a scary run-in with a tree left him limping to the finish line to secure a 2nd place finish. Hopefully Bryan will be healed up for the final round in just two short weeks.
There is certainly some friendly competition brewing in the XC1 ranks between BNR’s Kevin Yoho and Yamaha’s Johnny Gallagher, as the two seem to find each other late in the race to engage in a battle to the finish line. This time it was Yoho who got there first, grabbing a season-best 6th place finish just 0.9 seconds ahead of Gallagher in 7th. With just one round remaining these two are a mere 2 points apart in the overall standings, which should make for some exciting racing at the season finale.
Randy Hamilton had an awesome ride leading much of the way in XC2 and was within the top-10 Overall before being swallowed up in one of the mud holes.
The amateur ranks were dominated by GBC racers with Brycen Neal leading the way, grabbing the College A class win, Top Amateur award, and an astounding 11th Overall finish. Jay Shadron followed Brycen home in 2nd place, and also set a career best 16th Overall in the process. Other standout performances included: Chris Barbee Ӊ 2rd Vet A; Todd Mosakala Ӊ 5th Vet B; and Nathan Hornacek Ӊ 5th Junior A.
