The Penland Racing Team went through a tragic series of events while racing the Baja 1000 last week, as Hoyt Penland crashed and broke his right leg in six places. Hoyt did not have health insurance, so his dad, Mike has spent whatever money they did have on them to pay for surgery, which included placing a rod in Hoyt's leg. According to our friend Rick Sosebee from Off-Road.com, the Penland's will leave Lapaz for the U.S. as soon as Hoyt can handle the ride. They won't be able to make it home for Thanksgiving and they will probably miss this weekend's banquet. Ricky at Off-Road.com and everyone here at Racer Productions would like to get some money together for the Penlands, so we have set up a donation form here at the office.

If you would like to donate to the Penland family to help them through the holidays, please call Kelly here at Racer Productions, 304-284-0084 ext. 102.

Thank you.

By the way, you never know what will happen at Baja. According to a post on Quad Zone, they couldn't find Hoyt's crashed quad for while, until they finally found someone who knew where the quad was and took them to it. They found it hidden behind a hill at the crash site but a lot of the parts had been stripped from it: tires, headlights, gps, battery, etc. It can be crazy down there.
