Welcome to Quick Fill.
Summer break is officially in full swing as we close in on our first ‘whole’ week since the Snowshoe GNCC came to a close. This is of course not counting the week immediately following the race because you probably spent the majority of that week cleaning everything back up to either A) put away for a few weeks, or B) re-prep for what event lies next for you. Either way, for most folks this is the first full week of summer break, and it calls for a little celebration and reflection on the first part of the 2023 GNCC Racing season.
The first part of the season saw quite the mix. Things started out nearly perfect at Big Buck and Florida’s Wild Boar GNCC was pretty nice as well, even in the rugged and grueling sand whoops. When the series moved up to The General in Georgia, the ATV races were treated with pretty good conditions but for the bikes, things were just flat out messy with heavy rains falling pretty much all day long. From there, the return to the Big Buck Farm for the Tiger Run GNCC was mostly good, but a rain shower early on Saturday made things a little bit on the slick side for the ATV crowd, but it shaped right back up to be darn near perfect on Sunday.
The final southern event of the season would take place at Moree’s Sportsman’s Preserve with the Camp Coker Bullet GNCC, and really, really nice weather and conditions would finally be the norm all weekend long. As the series made its first trip north, conditions would change once again as the Hoosier GNCC would see mostly good conditions for the ATVs and another all-out mud race for the bikes. Things only got nastier from there as the following round, The John Penton, produced one of the longest weekends of flat out mud races in quite some time as the majority of the weekend saw slick and nasty conditions, albeit things finally started coming around by Sunday afternoon; just in time to add in one of the toughest and most grueling John Penton Sections in history.
From there, we saw pretty dusty conditions all weekend long at the Mason-Dixon GNCC, but it didn’t develop into the loose, deep silt that we’ve seen there in the past. Then it finally came to the Snowshoe GNCC which is always infamous for muddy conditions due to the copious amounts of natural springs scattered across the mountain. However, it seemed like it rained every day leading into the event which added even more of a challenge. So, by and far the first part of the 2023 GNCC season has been a bit wet to say the least. So, here’s to hoping the final three rounds later this fall see some really, really nice conditions instead.
We have quite a while until things kick back off, which leaves us a lot of time to talk about various things throughout the summer. If you have anything you would like to contribute, let me know! It can be anything GNCC related; your racing experiences thus far in 2023, experiences as a fan, maybe even a different take on how the pro classes have shaped up so far, or just a few nice words. Drop me a line at [email protected] and we’d be glad to share your write up in a future edition of Quick Fill.
Also, don’t forget that we’re always looking for potential new venues for races. We need somewhere around 500 acres or more, with something close to 75-100 acres available for parking. We’re really interested in locations down south, specifically North Carolina, but open to checking out some others as well. If you have some property or know someone with property that might fit this criteria, drop me a line at [email protected] with some details!
On our end, we’re wide open with other events to eat up this so-called summer break. As most of you already know, the bulk of our staff is also involved with the Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s, plus some of the Pro Motocross events throughout the summer. This means there’s a ton of work going on as we prepare for these events, with Loretta’s being a big one.
There are always a number of familiar GNCC racers who make the trip to race Loretta’s and as usual we’ll be keeping an eye out for those and let the GNCC Racing Nation know how things are going for them. Loretta’s Regionals have all wrapped up and we’re now in the process of finalizing all the entries. Once those rider rosters are ready, we’ll have a good idea of who all from the GNCC Racing Nation will be in the big show and be sure to let you know in an upcoming edition of Quick Fill.
This week some of us are up in the New England area for this weekend's Southwick National round of Pro Motocross. We hear Josh Toth is going to try his hand at Pro Motocross for the first time, and with a tough, round and sandy Southwick track, we couldn't think of a better place for an offroader to try Pro Motocross for the first time. We'll see how things go!
There’s a lot to talk about in the coming weeks but there’s also a lot of time to kill before we get back to GNCC Racing so we’ll save some of those talks to stretch out over the summer break. That means this is going to do it for this week’s edition of Quick Fill. Enjoy your weekend, stay safe enjoying whatever activities you may be enjoying and we’ll see you back here next week for another edition of Quick Fill.
