Welcome to Quick Fill.

It’s time to go racing once again! We’re ready to roll into round two this weekend in Florida and it sure is beautiful down here right now. The temperatures have been really nice all week and that looks like it’s going to continue into the weekend as well. There is a chance of rain on Saturday, but it’s been incredibly dry here and the one thing about sand is that rain usually makes it a bit better. But since it’s been so dry you might end up seeing any rain that may end up falling just sort of bead up on top of the sand and never really have the chance to sink in very far. Regardless, expect a great weekend of racing.

Obviously, we’ll give you the lowdown on what to expect out on the race track but one thing real quick before we jump into that. When you’re out on the racecourse and come up on an injured rider being tended to, please slow down, show respect to the rider and the first responders trying to help out, and wait until you’ve cleared the accident to get back on the throttle. There were a couple of instances at Big Buck where a few riders came through an incident entirely too fast and even got on the gas, spraying roost on the guys helping the downed rider. This is totally unacceptable and please keep in mind that chopping the throttle for just a few seconds is not going to ruin your race but disregarding and disrespecting first responders can ruin your race as you very well may find yourself penalized or disqualified all together.

Now let’s talk about what to expect from this weekend’s Wild Boar GNCC course. It’s going to be a good one as we’ve spent all week piecing together a really fun racecourse. You’ll be starting about a half mile into the lap and start heading towards the trackside pitting area, weaving around the mud pits after the one-mile mark. Yes, I said ‘around’ the mud holes. You’ll find your way to a faster section past the two-mile mark, then through some nice flowing woods over to the three-mile mark.

The woods at the three are open in spots, then tighten back up, then open back up with multiple lines for passing. This continues all the way to the four-mile mark where it tightens back up with lots of twisty turns all the way to the FMF Powerpoint and Monster Mile area at the 4.5 mile marker. From there, the PM ATVs and all bikes will split off and head across what Hogwaller calls “Rev Limiter Alley” but don’t worry, you’re only going across a small portion of that before dropping into some tighter woods to the five-mile mark.

At the five, the PM ATVs will pop back out into the open and have an optional water hole. You can skim across the water or skip it completely. Now, I say skim because there is about a four-foot-wide portion of it that gets deep, but quickly shallows back out. I still wouldn’t recommend hitting it slow and trying to roll through it, so skim the water or just turn right to skip around it. The quads will then tie back in around the 7.25 mile area. The bikes will turn right at the five and pop out in the open for just a second, then back into some tighter woods. You’ll be bouncing between some tighter and faster woods along with some palmetto roots all the way to the six-mile mark. You’ll then find a mix of some single and double track for a bit and just after the 6.5 you’ll pick up a nice single track section all the way to the seven.

After the seven, and where the quads tie back in, you’ll be zigzagging around some more water holes, and eventually cross a shallow water hole before crossing back into the slower and twisty woods again about 7.5. These slightly tighter and twisty woods continue along for quite a while, passing the eight-mile mark where you’ll find a pretty cool whoop straight for just a bit, then more twisty woods all the way to the nine.

From the nine to the ten is a pretty similar story as well. Tighter woods for the most part with a few open spaces, then once you get to the ten all the quads and the AM bikes will make a cut to the 11-mile mark. We took mercy on the PM bikes and gave them their own little section from the ten to 11 that is a bit twisty and really fun. This continues along all the way to the 12-mile mark, including a really fun ‘Berm Blaster Trail’ just after the 11.5. At the 12, you’ll come back into the FMF Powerpoint and Monster Mile area once again, then back into the twisty woods all the way to the 13-mile mark where you’ll start into the home stretch.

The final mile is a mix of open trail and tighter trail all the way to the finish for a grand total of 14 miles on the dot for the PM bikes! Overall, this is shaping up to be one of the most fun Wild Boar events we’ve ever had. Obviously there’s still a bit of work to do, so we’ll cut this week’s edition of Quick Fill here and get back to work. Enjoy your weekend and we’ll see you here in Florida!
