Walker Fowler Race Report: Ironman GNCC

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (November 3, 2019) – The 25th annual Ironman GNCC flew by just as fast as the rest of the 2019 Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series did. In fact, the race was even cut to just an hour and a half due to the deteriorating rainy track conditions. It was no surprise that the holeshot would be just one of the many keys to success in the less than desirable conditions, which is exactly what Walker put into action when the green flag dropped.

When he checked through timing and scoring for the first time, Walker had completely left the rest of the field -- well over a minute ahead of second place. The track continued to diminish as the race progressed and the lapped riders added another barrier. Walker diligently worked his way through the riders and kept a consistent pace as his competition began to draw closer.

Since the overall race time was cut short, the competition of the second lap also signified the last lap of the 2019 race season. With his cushion now only 30-seconds, Walker remained confident in his abilities to secure the overall win. Unfortunately, the weather had a different plan because as he approached the motocross portion of the track, his quad succumbed to the conditions. After dismounting, Walker unlatched the seat and began examining what could be the culprit when, in a frantic race rush, he accidentally plugged the battery into itself causing it to pop. Fortunately for Walker, he was unharmed. As a precautionary measure, the EMS tended to him to ensure there weren’t any underlying issues but he was cleared at the track.

Walker took a chance when he started his own team in 2017, but now three seasons later he owes his success to the companies that back him and make him never question his machine’s capability on any given course.

“I truly do have the best in the business backing me,” said Walker. “I have said it all along but each season our team continues to grow stronger. It’s hard to believe we now have five national championships and that people are associating my name with some of the greats like Barry Hawk, Bill Ballance and Chris Borich that I once looked up to and aspired to be.”

You can catch Walker next at the 2019 GNCC Awards banquet in Morgantown, West Virginia on Friday, December 6. The upcoming holiday season will serve as a recovery period for Walker before he travels to Florida and starts preparing for the turn of a new decade and the 2020 series!
