Eight-year old Maddox Moretz was the Micro Bike 50cc Sr. GNCC Champion in 2018. Recently, he added another accomplishment to an impressive resume for such a young kid – he won the San Diego KTM Supercross Challenge! The muddy conditions must have felt like home for Maddox. Both he and his five-year old brother, Mason, come from a long line of racers. While last year was the first year chasing GNCCs for the pair from Morganton, NC, we expect to see them doing great things for years to come.
GNCCRacing.com: Good morning everybody, how are you doing?
Lindsey Moretz (mom): We’re doing great!
How did you and your family get involved with racing?
Lindsey: Well, my father-in-law raced for a while, and my husband raced for awhile too. My oldest, Maddox, took interest in it when he was three. Then for Mason, our youngest, he was kind of born into it with his brother already riding. He’s had little toy motorcycles since he was about six months old (laughs)
It looks like this is the first year you did the whole Micro GNCC series – what did you guys think of it?
Lindsey: Yes, it was our first year. They loved it! I do wish we weren’t so far away from some of them, but we still really enjoy it.
Maddox let’s go ahead and get started with you. It looks like you had a really big year! Tell me about this KTM Junior Supercross Challenge you did.
Maddox Moretz: The KTM challenge was a lot of fun. The course was pretty hard because it was muddy. I got through it though!
I forgot that San Diego was the supercross where it rained a lot! How did you finish?
Maddox: I finished first! I was happy about that.
That’s really cool! How did your race go – did you have good battles with anyone?
Maddox: Not really. Almost all the other kids wrecked! There was only one other kid that I had to pass. That made it easier.
All that GNCC experience riding in the mud must have come in handy!
Maddox: Yeah. I like the mud.
Speaking of GNCC, you won the title this year in 50 Senior didn’t you?
Maddox: Yes, I was happy about that too! It made me feel really good.
Can you tell me about some of your races?
Maddox: The race I did best at was Pennsylvania. It was pretty good and I won. Some of them were tough. Georgia was hard because I had no rear brakes, and in another one I crashed off the start and had to catch people again. But I still finished good.
(Dad): Yeah, he don’t know what quit is!
That’s a trait you’ve got to have to be a good GNCC racer! Okay Mason, it’s your turn. You’re a racer just like your big brother, right? What do you like about dirt bikes?
Mason Moretz: Yeah. They’re good and go really fast!
I heard you just won a race for the first time at a local last weekend ….
Mason: I got the holeshot. Then I fell down the first lap. The kid behind me passed me. Then I passed him. I liked winning!
So, which GNCC round do you guys like best?
Maddox: Probably Pennsylvania. It was the muddiest one.
Mason: Me too! Because it was muddy.
Now, tell me something about you that doesn’t involve dirt bikes.
Maddox: We like to go out and play outside all the time. We ride bicycles and hoverboards and scooters, we don’t care. We like anything that has two wheels!
And what are your goals for this upcoming season?
Maddox: Just to win all the races I can and get another championship again.
Mason: I want to win a championship like my brother.
Who would you like to thank?
