Landon Wolfe Wins Ironman GNCC 4x4 Pro Class as GBC Motorsports Racers Claim Four Class Titles

After twelve exciting rounds of racing action over the course of eight months, the 2017 GNCC season came to an end with the thirteenth and final round in Crawfordsville, Indiana. It was an overcast and chilly day but that didn’t stop the hoards of spectators that gathered to watch these racers battle it out one last time at the legendary Ironman GNCC. For some racers, their fate hung in the balance as they made one final grab for their class points lead, while others used the opportunity to try their hand at a different class.
All eyes were on Landon Wolfe as racers lined up for the start of the 10am race, as Wolfe would be making a guest appearance in his first ever 4x4 Pro class race. Wolfe got off to a good start and battled with some stiff competition on his way to winning the class and also earning the top overall position out of 540 riders.
Doug Robey also jumped to the Pro class for this final round and earned himself the 5th place spot in the class and 10th overall. Robey put together an impressive season to finish 2nd in the 4x4 A class rankings, while Jordan Phillips claimed the best 4x4 Pro class finish for GBC riders with the 6th place spot.
Meanwhile, Ken Robey finished out a truly spectacular season to claim the 4x4 Senior class title. Ken topped the podium ten times throughout the season, one of the most dominating efforts in all of 2017.
Rising WXC racer Katelyn Osburn enjoyed her best season to date with two class wins and a total of nine podiums throughout the season. Osburn finished 3rd in the standings for the second consecutive year.
With the 19+ C class title in hand, Jeremy LeDonne used the final round to try his hand at the College B class. LeDonne finished 3rd in the class, and it will be interesting to see where he decides to compete in 2018.
When the 1pm race rolled around, GBC Motorsports rider Marty Christofferson looked to do what he has done so well this season: grab the holeshot. Christofferson got a great start thanks to his Ground Buster III tires and narrowly missed out on the holeshot award. He would go on to lead all other GBC riders across the line with a 6th place XC1 Pro class finish and the 6th overall fastest time. GBC’s own Johnny Gallagher finished 8th in the class and 10th overall. Landon Wolfe wound up with the highest spot in the season standings with his 6th place position, with Christofferson and Gallagher following in 7th and 8th place, respectively.
But all eyes were on the final battle in the XC2 Pro-Am class as GBC rider Devon Feehan attempted to close out the season with the class championship on the line. Feehan held a small but confidence-inspiring lead in the points standings going into the final round, and his 3rd place class finish at Ironman was more than enough to secure the title. Feehan’s impressive rookie season in the XC2 class landed him in 9th place in the Top 20 Overall, and fellow GBC rider Matt Lindle joined him on the leaderboard in 14th place with Tucker Wyatt behind in 15th place.
Nick Mastrangelo and John Sousa both put in solid efforts but came up just short. Mastrangelo finished the season with a bang, winning the Junior A class and ranking 2nd in the final standings. Sousa’s 3rd place finish in the finale secured 2nd place in the Vet B class.
Jeff Pickens dominated all season long, handily taking the Vet A class title after finishing the season off the way he started it - with a win, and 16th overall on the day. The former pro level rider proved he still has what it takes to compete throughout the grueling GNCC season and come out on top.
Treavis Poynter followed up on his UTV Single Seater debut in round 12, where he placed 3rd, to take first-ever overall win in a UTV SS race. Tanner Bowles ended up in 3rd in the UTV Lites final standings with 3 total podiums and a race win under his belt.
