The biggest team update from Unadilla comes from the 10 a.m. race. Lining up, Tayla Jones, knew she had the opportunity to wrap-up the championship in the WXC class if she was able to finish in first. She picked up right where she left off in Ohio and lead the first lap, unfortunately the short track put lapped riders ahead of the girls sooner than normal. Jones would end up becoming tangled with a rider and fall all the way back to fifth. However, Jones quickly remounted and worked her way diligently back through the pack to take her ninth win of the season and clinch her very first GNCC title.

“I had a good race, no major dramas out there and only one small crash so that was good.,” reported Jones. “The lappers were pretty hectic and finding lines to get around was basically how the race went. I had a lot of fun though and the track conditions were good. I am super excited to wrap up the title. It has been a dream of mine for a long time and to finally get to this point is an amazing feeling.”

Sam Widdicombe utilized the Arrive-N-Ride Program, and flew from England to race in the Sportsman B class. Widdicombe’s race was cut short due to coming together with a lapped rider, but he still has a positive reflection on the experience!

“So the Unadilla GNCC didn't really go as planned as my race ended two laps before the finish due a crash on one of the hill climbs where another rider back flipped his bike into me making me roll to the bottom and banged myself a bit,” said Widdicombe. “I’m all okay but that's racing, if it was easy everyone could do it! Thank you to Frank Keegan Jr. for all his efforts and Aaron Evans for his awesome efforts getting the bike in tip-top shape. Grant Baylor also came into this weekend’s event with all eyes on him after winning his first ever GNCC at the previous round. Unfortunately, Baylor struggled with a shoulder injury, but still managed to push through and finish seventh in the XC1 Pro class.

“Unadilla was a tough one for me, I started the day with a fresh shoulder injury which made it very hard to hold myself up on a very rough and physically demanding track but I gave it all I had and ended up with seventh,” said Baylor.

Jesper Borjesson was also plagued with a shoulder injury this weekend. After getting stuck behind a wreck in the first turn, Borjesson went to work passing through the pack until he had to stop and remove his shoulder brace. He would end up coming back for 18th in his first GNCC back since June 11.

“Back racing after the summer break and my shoulder injury. I had a bad start and I got stuck in a bunch of riders that went down in front of me,” reported Borjesson. “I had to pass a lot of riders right after that, but my shoulder and arm started to hurt during the first lap. I had new protection for it, but it was too tight around my arm so I lost time struggling with that and had to stop in the pits on the second lap to take it off. I was pretty far behind the other riders but wanted to finish the race and get laps on the track for the future. So really bad result this weekend but I'm happy to be back and happy to have another GNCC in the book."

Hunter Neuwirth’s summer break training paid off this summer where he finished an impressive third in the FMF XC3 1250 Pro-Am class, marking his fifth podium appearance of the year.

“The race was awesome,” said Neuwirth. “The course was rough and a lot of fun. I got a bad start but diced my way into fourth quickly and had Whibley in sight, but I pitted to early so I was stuck trying to play catch up all day. The last two laps I had to tone the pace down after my back gave out from an injury earlier this week. At the end of the day I got on the box with third. I felt good on the bike and rode well. I'm closer to those guys now then I've ever been.”

In the 8 a.m. youth race, Canadian rider Troy Horbaty captured his best finish to date in the 85 (7-11) with second, while Texas’ Mango Gutierrez finished 18th in his first GNCC of the year.
