The JMR / ATVriders.com backed team of Jarrod McClure and Randy Hamilton returned back to Grand National Cross Country racing this past weekend at the Wild Boar GNCC season opener in Palatka, Florida. McClure earned fourth overall for the day in the XC1 Pro class. JMR teammate Randy Hamilton secured tenth in the XC2 Pro Am class, earning valuable points, despite suffering with a preseason wrist injury.
“My start was great with the Dirtworks 24-volt system, which gets these Hondas fired fast and the Baldwin power ripped me out front. I was ok with going into the wood in sixth. I was with all the guys who have been down in Florida training all winter, so I thought well here is where I will find out where I stack up with these guys!” said McClure.DWT’s McClure got his Baldwin powered Honda TRX450ER to a great start and went into the woods in the sixth position, falling into line with all the top guys who have been down here riding all winter. McClure held his own with the pack of riders for the first lap as they all got a taste of the track conditions and began to fall into pace. This years Wild Boar GNCC may have been one of the rougher Florida tracks to date according to some of the top riders. The track was extremely blown out by the time the afternoon race was set to start, palmetto roots were exposed throughout the track, and the whoops and sand ruts were getting deeper and deeper.
McClure stayed in fifth for much of the race, and after a last lap push was able to catch and get around Adam Mcgill as he got tangled with a lapper. This secured him the fourth overall position for the day.
“I am very happy with the fourth overall even though it is not the win or podium we were hoping for. It has been a long winter up north, and I really want to thank Marc Spataro from Motopro Training for my strict training program, my fitness felt great out there, and I owe it to his workouts. I am super comfortable with my program this season and expect to get back to winning soon,” said McClure.
JMR’s XC2 Pro Am racer Randy Hamilton dug deep this past weekend as he rode to tenth place with an injured wrist from a preseason crash. Hamilton got a great start nearly grabbing the holeshot and rode out front early on, but as the track got worse the pain caused him to back it down, salvage some points, and save himself for Georgia the following weeked.
The JMR team will spend the week in Florida prepping for GNCC round two this weekend in Sparta GA. See everyone there!
