Five-Time GNCC Champion to be Recognized for Off-Road Endowment

On Saturday, October 17 in Orlando, Fla., the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) will welcome the Class of 2015 including five-time AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) champion Rodney Smith into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame. The museum was founded in 1990 to provide a permanent home to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, which celebrates and preserves the rich tradition of motorcycling in America through the recognition of the sport's greatest heroes.

Smith will be welcomed in the off-road category of inductees and has earned this esteemed award through his various accomplishments in the racing industry. Smith first earned recognition as an international contender finishing third in the 1988 Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme 250cc World Motocross Championship before returning to America in 1990 where he continued his dominance in off-road racing claiming 13 AMA-sanctioned National Championship Series, including five GNCC, along with three AMA National Hare Scramble titles, and five AMA National Reliability Enduro Championships.

Smith still continues to make his presence known, recently competing in the 2015 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by AMSOIL, at the historic Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, where he finished an impressive second overall (2-2-1) in the Masters 50+ division. The Loretta Lynn Amateur National is deemed the world’s largest and most prestigious amateur motocross championship.
