Bryan Buckhannon Race Report: FMF Steele Creek

Monday, April 6, 2015 | 10:15 AM

Can-Am/QuadBoss/Bike Masters/Kenda backed Bryan Buckhannon earned another podium position in the 4x4 Pro class in the morning classes at round three of the 2015 GNCC series at Steele Creek in Morganton, NC.

Steele Creek is a challenging and rough track that puts both man and machine to the test, but Bryan Buckhannon was ready and able as he charged off the start in the number three spot. “I had a good start and I was in third heading into the woods,” said Buckhannon.

Buckhannon was looking for an opportunity to gain positions and didn’t have to wait long for that to happen. “I got up to second in the second lap and there were a couple of bottlenecks that worked to my advantage, and I took over the lead,” said Buckhannon.

Heading into the third lap, lap traffic became an issue. “I got hung up behind a couple of lappers and couldn’t get around them right away, and I dropped back to third. Once I got around, I started making up time,” Buckhannon explained.

Buckhannon was running fast and smooth, but a rear shock began leaking fluid and soon was not working. “I knew something was wrong because it wasn’t handling right, but I didn’t want to stop and lose more time, so I kept going and did the best I could,” said Buckhannon.

Despite the shock issue, Bryan Buckhannon charged his way to a third place finish in his class and overall in the morning classes. “I’m actually really happy with how I finished considering the shock issue. Everything else worked great; my engine pulled hard and I was running the new Kenda Bounty Hunter tires out there this weekend and they worked awesome. They hooked up great and handled the roughest spots really well,” said Buckhannon.

For the next round, Bryan Buckhannon will be doing double duty, as the SxS races will be back at Big Buck. “I’m looking forward to Big Buck. I like that track and I’m hoping to be back on top of the podium for the 4x4 Pro for that round. Plus I will be racing the SxS class and I am really looking forward to that,” Buckhannon said.

Round four of the 2015 GNCC series will head to Big Buck in Union, SC on April 11th where Bryan Buckhannon will be going for the win.
