Heading into the season finale all tied up in points, XC1 Pro ATV contenders Chris Borich and Walker Fowler set the stage for an epic championship battle at Saturday’s AMSOIL Ironman GNCC. After two hours of intense racing it all came down to the final stretch of the Ironman motocross track, where thousands of spectators witnessed a head-to-head battle all the way to the finish.
Fowler led the way for a majority of the four-lap race, but Borich (in true fashion) began to make his move on the final lap as they entered the motocross section side-by-side. Borich positioned himself to make a last-minute pass on Fowler with only a few turns left to go and the last ditch effort paid off as Borich finished two tenths of a second ahead of Fowler, claiming his sixth consecutive GNCC ATV National Championship in 2014.
Adam McGill put in a strong showing at the season finale, landing atop the podium once again with a third place finish. McGill will round out the season with a number three rank for 2015.
The XC2 Pro Am Championship stage was set just as exciting as rookies Cole Richardson and Marshal Goings entered the season finale all tied up in points as well. Goings grabbed a favorable start but it was Richardson who prevailed in the end to capture his first career Pro Am championship with a big victory at the final round.
New York's Marty Christofferson locked up third place in the championship standings with yet another consistent finish atop the XC2 podium.
