Round 4 of the AMSOIL GNCC Side-by-Side Championship took place on Saturday with the John Penton GNCC in Millfield, Ohio. Team Big Country Powersports secured a sixth place finish in the XC1 Modified class, where they will keep their championship hopes alive as the series heads into a short break for the summer before returning for the final two rounds in October.

The John Penton GNCC course offers a variety of terrain and obstacles for SxS competition, including the popular Sunday Creek motocross track. In addition to the motocross track, which staked the final section of the 4.5-mile course, there were plenty of fast trails and rough terrain to overcome. But perhaps the most difficult obstacle of them all was the heavy dust throughout the woods.

Team Big Country Powersports driver John Yokley, along with his passenger Jarrod McClure, had issues off the start that caused the team to take off just after the rest of the pack. However, John pushed his Polaris RZR 900 on the opening lap where he caught William Yokley and the rest of the pack early on.

“The dust was an awfully big factor out there and it was hard to do anything if you were behind someone in the woods,” Yokley said.

John put on a charge around the mid-way point, catching up to Yokley’s Polaris National Guard team once again and eventually making the pass.

“I got in front of William and then he got around me on the motocross track. After that, we stayed together for most of the race. It was one of those days where you had to settle down and take what you could get out there,” John said.

About two miles from the finish, John felt his belt start to slip as he continued to reel in the cars ahead. “At that point, I was going to just baby it in. I knew I had to finish and salvage some points for the day.”

And that’s exactly what he did. John and the Big Country Powersports team finished sixth place in the XC1 Modified class, where they now sit tied for fourth place in the championship standings.
