Brady Myers showed himself to be a contender in what is always one of the most competitive A classes in GNCC Racing. In 2013, Brady stayed consistent all season and ended up 2nd place in the Open-A class final points. We caught up with Brady to talk about his 2013 season, plans for 2014, and more.
GNCCRacing.com: How's everything going today?
Brady Myers: Today's been going good nothing much going on just some bike work and gym time!!!
Tell everyone a bit about yourself.
Brady Myers is the name, I'm 20 years old. I started riding when I was just a toddler around the age of 3. I'm from Parkersburg, West Virginia and I enjoy fishing, hunting as well as wakeboarding and spending time with friends and family.
How did you get started racing?
I've always loved racing. Pretty much started out with just watching and going to races and that lead to my first race on the trusty PW50 that dad got me. It all started at Reno raceway in Ohio.
How have you been spending your winter break?
Winter break started out pretty slow until Christmas Day. I met up with Tristan Landrum and his dad Shane and we headed south for a week. We met up with Sam Evans and some other guys from the Hardcore Team. Got some good training in, especially when Shane's around. He’ll for sure put your butt to work, no doubt about it, so that trip was fun. We're actually about to head back down this Friday for a couple days.
Are you ready to get back into the swing of things?
Oh man, I've been ready since the last race ended (laughs)
What are your plans for 2014?
Well, I guess I'll go ahead and throw it out there that I'm racing 4 Stroke A Lites this year. So the plan is to come out with a championship, but we’ll see how that goes. My main priority is to stay strong, be consistent all year long, and hope it pays off.
Tell us how your 2013 season went.
The 2013 season was so much fun. I missed the first two rounds, so the beginning of the year started out kind of slow but it picked up. I was fighting for the championship all year long, battling with my best friend Bob Dunlap at every round. Crazy to think I travel hundreds of miles to race and my competition is my best friend that lives 10 miles from my house. But, it makes for a good time and 2013 couldn't have went any better than it did!
How did it feel to finish out the season a solid 2nd in the Open-A class?
It felt great! I mean, don't get me wrong, it would’ve been a better feeling getting the championship but you can't win them all. My plan was just to get a solid top 3 and I ended up 2nd, so I was pretty happy with that.
What was the competition like in Open-A?
The competition was pretty tight for sure. Every race there was a battle going on for the lead. We had plenty of different winners throughout the year which made the racing awesome but a challenge for sure.
What do you hope to accomplish in 2014?
It would be awesome to walk away with the championship in A Lites. Other than that, hopefully I can stay safe and finish the whole year without any setbacks.
What will it take to accomplish that?
I think it's going to take a lot of mental strength, and just spending time on the bike. Also training and being in the gym plays a big part in being a contender for the year.
What do you hope to accomplish beyond 2014?
Got to see how 2014 goes first! (laughs)
Words to live by? Go!
Believing in yourself is the first step to success
Alright, before we wrap this up, who would you like to thank?
First off, the man above for keeping me safe, my dad for making this all possible for me, also my mom, John Ross from Shenandoah Honda, StukMX, USWE, SKF, Throttle Out Performance, Thad and the whole Duvall family, Captain Mike for doing my motors, James Giddings from GMR, Mark Thomas, FST Images, Shane Landrum, Eric Breitmeier, Doug Blackwell and everyone else that has made this all possible!
