Trevor Bollinger has been on fire in 2013. After missing the first two rounds, Bollinger came away from his home race at Steele Creek with a win in the 4-Stroke A Lites class. Then followed that up with another win at Big Buck, and continued to win all the way to the summer break. We caught up with Trevor to talk about his 2013 season and more.
GNCCRacing.com: How's it going today?
Trevor Bollinger: It's good! I just got to this sand track, about to put in some motos.
Sounds fun! So, tell everyone a little about yourself.
I'm Trevor Bollinger, I race 4 Stroke A Lites in the GNCC, and that’s about all there is to it. (laughs)
How did you get started racing?
My dad raced, and we have a motocross track so I was always around it. I didn't really start racing until 2007 though.
So, how have you been spending your summer break?
The first half I took some time off, but the last few weeks I been hitting it pretty hard riding, training and doing some local races.
How have the local races been going for you?
They’ve been going good! It's fun to go out and race on the off weekends, its good practice too.
I see you also just picked up a CR250 2-stroke, how's that been?
Oh yeah, that thing is so much fun to go rip around on. It’s nice to have a break from the normal training and motos to go ride something different and have fun at the same time.
That thing looks mint too, how did you score that?
Well, it wasn't too mint when I got it (laughs). It’s been my project bike and so far I’ve been happy with the results.
Do you have any plans to race it anywhere?
Not in the woods, but I've always wanted to go to Loretta's so I’d like to do that. I think it would be a lot of fun, especially doing it on the 2-stroke.
So what do you hope to accomplish in the final four rounds?
Top 15 overall is where I need to be every race. I'm not happy if that doesn't happen.
How does it feel to be the "man to beat" in the 4-Stroke A Lites class?
It feels pretty good, but that's not really how I look at it though. There are still 15-20 guys faster than me every weekend. I hope I can work up to being on pace with those other 15-20 guys but it’s going to take a lot of work.
Do you have any plans for 2014 yet?
No plans yet, just going to get through this year first.
What do you hope to accomplish in the future?
Short term, I want to be a contender in XC2. Long term, I want be at the top of XC1. You’ve got to dream big (laughs)
What will it take to get there?
Definitely a lot of hard work and dedication. It’s not something that happens overnight and it’s not something that just gets handed to you either.
Alright, before we wrap this up, who would you like to thank?
First off god for giving me the ability to ride and the opportunity to do what I love. This all wouldn't be possible without my Dad, my Grandpa, my uncles and the rest of my family. I also want to thank Mark Hilton at Motivations, Jason Smith at USWE, Jay and everyone at Maxxis, Bart Hayes at PG, and Jesse Robinson for all the help and advice.
