Marshal Goings has set the bar high for the competition in the College A class in 2013. With 3 wins under his belt so far, Marshal controls the points lead but maintaining it won’t come easy as the competition is fierce. We caught up with Marshal to find out more.

GNCCRacing.com: How's it going today?
Marshal Goings: Today was good. Just trying to get some washing done and recover from the race. It was a tough one!

So how did Big Buck go for you?
The race Saturday went good, I can’t complain. It was just one of those day where I couldn’t really find a good groove but we pushed through it and made the best of it.

Obviously it worked because you came away with the win! That's 3 wins for you so far this season. How's that feel?
Having three wins under my belt is nice. The past years I’ve had bike troubles with at least one of the first 4 rounds, so I was super pumped to stay consistent through the opening rounds.

What is it going to take to keep those results coming?
This year is going to be a tough one, that’s for sure. It’s my first year in the afternoon race, so I’m just getting a feel for the tougher tracks. The weather is getting nice here back home, so I hope to get the pedal bike out more, and turn some laps on the quad as well.

How tough is the competition in the College A class this year?
The competition is definitely pretty tough this year. People may not see it, but I know in my head that I’m going to have to be there every race. Jay (Shadron) is one of the most consistent racers out there and that’s what wins championships, so I have to stay clean and ride my race at all 13 rounds.

Knowing that, does it make the racing that much more fun?
Yeah, for sure. Running away with it without them there to challenge me wouldn’t be any fun. I love a challenge, and I love having a good, long, and drawn out battle all the way to the finish line.

So let’s go back, how did you get started in the off-road world?
I got started on a mini in the youth back in 2009. My dad bought me a Pitster Pro and we went to an IXCR race and I did really well for my first time. So, we decided to take it to the nationals and we’ve been hooked ever since.

What brought you to GNCC Racing?
The GNCC series in one of the best. Not only do the best of the best cross country racers come, the series is very organized, on time, and ran like a professional series should be.

So how did last season go for you?
To be honest, I’ve had good races but championship wise, I’m still working for one. I had some highlight races, that’s for sure, but I just wasn’t able to stay consistent all year.

How did it feel to snag a few overall wins in the morning race?
The morning overall wins were great! Dave (Simmons) makes it fun because you really have to be on your game to beat him. I tried to make the best of the morning while I could, until I moved up and it got really serious in the afternoon races.

What do you hope to accomplish through the rest of 2013?
I hope to come out with the championship in the College A class, and a top 15 national number. I know it won’t be easy, but I’m going to give it my all and hopefully can make it happen.

What about down the road? What do you hope to accomplish in the future?
I’m not sure, to be honest. I’m going to see how it goes. There’s nothing more I’d like than to be standing next to the champ, but we’ll just have to see what happens!

Alright, before we wrap this up, who would you like to thank?
I’d like to thank my Dad first and foremost. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here doing any of this. I can’t thank him enough and I know, no matter what, that if I give it my 100% he will be happy. Also my family, The SICC Racing crew, Todd Demaree from Demaree Motorsports, Houser, DP Brakes, Maxxis, Hiper, Fox, Santo Derisi, Badlands Off-Road Park, High Octane Graphics, Powermadd, Fly Racing, HMF, the Moore family, and I’d like to thank Derrik Allen. He got me hooked, and when I’m looking for someone to train with, he’s there trying to get better and make me better as well!
