Sometimes the most competitive classes in GNCC Racing are those in the youth ranks. Dylan Proffitt is one of those youth riders competing for class wins. After logging a fifth place last year in the 65 (7-9) class, Dylan has made the jump to the 85 for this season. We caught up with Dylan to find out more.
GNCCRacing.com: How's everything going today?
Dylan Proffitt: It’s good. Still getting recovered from Steele Creek. It was a pretty fun time.
Sounds great! So tell everyone a little more about yourself.
Well, my name is Dylan Proffitt. I’m from Gracey, Kentucky and I'm in 4th grade at Trigg County Elementary School. I’m riding the 85 (7-11) class this year. I love to race motorcycles more than anything, and outside of that I also enjoy riding mountain bikes.
How did you get started in the racing world?
My dad raced his whole life, so when I was born I just took over racing from him and I’ve been at it ever sense. I started out on a PW50 when I was 3 years old. Now I'm 10 and racing a YZ85.
What's been the biggest accomplishment of your career so far?
I guess my biggest accomplish so far in racing is qualifying for Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National. I ended up with a 17th there and it was a great experience as a whole. Also, ending up 5th in the 65 (7-9) class last year in GNCC was pretty great as well.
So how has your 2013 season been going?
Well, it's a big step really. I moved up to 85 and I'm a little too short for it, but I'm getting used to it. I think I'm 7th in points right now in the 85 class and hope to improve starting in South Carolina.
What do you hope to accomplish through the rest of 2012?
Number one, I want to stay unhurt and ride to the best of my ability. I also hope to stay safe and have fun of course. That will make the season even better!
What has it been like making the switch to the 85?
It’s been a little tough but I’ve been adjusting and hopefully I’ll be completely comfortable on it soon. I feel like when I get there, the results will improve and I hope to just continue the success from there.
What's been the toughest part of the switch?
Really it’s just been touching the ground since I’m a little too short for it. It’s been tough on the hills and off-camber sections but I’ve got time to grow into it and when I do I should be adjusted to it.
So let's go back to 2012, how did last season go for you?
My 2012 season was awesome! I ended up 5th in points in the 65 (7-9) class and I had a lot of fun along the way. It was also really cool getting to travel everywhere.
What was the biggest highlight of the year?
Really, it was just the fact that I got to have fun and travel to cool places all season to race my motorcycle. That’s always a lot of fun and I’m really lucky to get to do it.
What do you hope to accomplish in the future?
Keep riding, have fun with it and I hope that one day I can make it to the XC1 class and win the overall!
Alright, before we wrap this up, who would you like to thank?
First off, my mom and dad. My grandpa, JPM Performance, Leatt, FMF and the promoters of the GNCC.
