In the world of GNCC Racing, it’s pretty common to see entire families racing together. Mack and Parker Jones out of Boomer, North Carolina make up the Moonshine Race Team with Mack in the 200-A class and Parker in Super Mini 12-13. We caught up with the boys to find out more.

How's everything going today, guys?

It’s going great! We’re just recovering from the Florida and Georgia races.

How did those races go for you guys?
Mack: I ended up with a ninth place in Florida, then worked my way back up to a top five finish in Georgia. So it was pretty good.

Parker: I got fourth in Florida but had a rough day in Georgia and only made 3 laps.

At least we’re back racing though! So how did you guys spend your winter break?

Mack: Practicing, riding bicycles and training for the 2013 season was pretty much my entire winter break.

Parker: Riding when we can, working on our motorcycles, exercising, getting in better shape.

Alright, so tell us a little about yourselves.

Mack: Well I just turned 16 and got my license, so that’s pretty cool. I’m riding a Husqvarna CR125, and I am excited about racing this year in the 200-A class.

Parker: I'm 12 years old and will be back racing a Yamaha YZ85 in the Super Mini 12-13 class this year.

How did you guys get started racing?
Mack: We had a local NCHSA race about 5 minutes from the house that we decided to check out, and we we've been hooked ever since!

What's it like for you guys to balance school and racing?
Mack: I will answer for both of us on this part; if we don't keep up our school work racing is not an option. It’s actually really hard. As soon as we get home from school, we ride bicycles, practice our dirt bikes, and then lift weights, followed by homework for the rest of the night.

Parker: Also some races we don't get home until 2 in the morning or later and still have to be at school at 7:30, so that’s pretty tough but we love it

Out of the two, which do you find to be more difficult?

Mack: School, because I enjoy racing, and I don't enjoy school (laughs)

Parker: Racing, it takes a lot of dedication and hard work, anyone can do school work.

Mack, tell us about your new ride for this year.

I’m riding a Husqvarna CR125 this year. They’re great bikes and super fun to ride as well.

How are you adjusting to the new bike?

Oh, I love it, it's like a new pair of underwear. At first it's constricting, but then they become a part of you.

What are your goals for the season?

Hopefully win 200 A in GNCC, and AA in the North Carolina Hare Scramble Association.

How about you, Parker? What do you hope to accomplish this season?

My goal is to win the Super Mini 12-13 championship and hopefully the overall. I also want to take the mini overall in North Carolina.

So, outside of GNCC you guys also race locally in the NCHSA Series. What is it like balancing the two series?
Mack: It's tricky because they share several race dates so you really can't do bad at a race because you use most drops going to the other series.

Parker: I agree with what Mack said. It’s definitely tough to do.

What do you think is the biggest advantage to racing 2 series?

Mack: Winning more than one championship.

Parker: You get more practice.

What do you hope to accomplish in the future?

Mack: Work my way up to XC1 and hopefully be successful there.

Parker: I hope that I can also make it in the XC1 class and end up with an XC1 championship.

Alright, before we wrap this up, who would you guys like to thank?

Big thanks to Bart Hayes and the gang at Powersport Grafx and Genuine Dirt Racer. Answer, Pro Taper, Friendly Wholesale Tire, Jarrett Daniels at SR1 suspension, Arlene Staley at Arlene and Friends, our grandma, mom and a big thanks to our dad who works on our bikes and keeps them running, and of course the Moonshine race team.
