Landon Wolfe currently sits in the top spot for the points chase in the competitive College A class. While he’s only logged a single win in 2012, Landon shows that consistency truly is key in racing. We caught up with Landon to find out more about 2012 and how he hopes to finish out the season.

GNCCRacing.com: How's everything going today?
Landon Wolfe: Pretty good! Just out cleaning everything up from the weekend of riding.

So for those you don't know you, tell us a little about yourself.
Well I’m from Manchester Maryland, I just turned 18 and graduated high school. I’ve Â been riding dirt bikes since I was 5, then I switched over to quads just a few years back. Worked my way up through the C and B class and now I’m working on College A. Racing related things is pretty much all I do other than occasionally hanging out with my friends and whatnot. But I’m out here living the dream and can’t complain one bit.

Definitely can’t complain there! How did you get started in the off-road world?
Well my dad has always had dirt bikes and raced motocross so when I came along he got me a dirt bike for Christmas and not long after that we were headed to the race track. We started out just racing like 3 races a year and then as I got older and faster we started coming to GNCC’s and all the other series.

How has your 2012 season been going so far?
My season started off awesome down in Florida with Chris Borich and Johnny Gallagher racing the FTR series, having a blast and then I ran into some pretty bad luck right before the GNCC’s started up. I broke a collarbone 10 days before River Ranch so we had that plated and was able to race, but I ended up having some bike problems at River Ranch and Georgia. The bad luck seemed to follow me around for a while but I finally was able to pull together a solid race at the John Penton and got a win.

How does it feel to be controlling the points lead in the College A class?
I wouldn’t say that I’m “controlling” the points lead but it definitely feels awesome to have the lead in that class. It’s not an easy class to win with Brycen Neal, Chad Jones and all the other fast guys that are in there. But it’s definitely nice to have the lead going in to the second half of the season.

What is it going to take to hold that lead through the end of the season?
Pretty much, to hold onto the lead I have to win all of the remaining races which would be insanely tough to do, but I’m certainly going to give it all I got. The throwaways are working to my disadvantage this year.

What do you hope to accomplish in the final four rounds?
Well I’d definitely like to win the last four rounds but other than that just keep going out and having fun and not getting hurt.

Even with dropping rounds at the end of the season, what is it like knowing that you're holding the points lead now with only 1 win so far?
It definitely sucks that I’ve only been able to get one win so far but with the bad luck that we have had I can’t really complain. We have just kept our head down and tried to make sure that the bikes have been perfect on race day and so far it has paid off enough to have the points lead. I’d rather have a championship than a bunch of wins.

It goes to show that consistency is key, right?
Yeah, for sure. It’s all about consistency but we all know it’s nice to get the win. It would also be nice to have Borich’s kind of consistency though, if you know what I’m saying. He seems to have the consistency game figured out pretty well.

How have the final four tracks treated you in the past?
Unadilla and Ironman are my two favorite tracks and I have always done good at both of those tracks. Power Line Park is an awesome track too but I’ve never really done very good there. And I have never been to Loretta’s but I hear that the track and the facility is really cool and I am pretty pumped to go there for my first time this year.

Do you have any plans for 2013 yet?
My plans for next year are to move to XC2 ProAm and hopefully just have a good consistent year like I’ve had this year, and just move on from there.

What do you hope to accomplish down the road in your racing career?
I’d like to eventually be able to move up to the XC1 pro class and do the absolute best I can. Hopefully one day I can get the chance to be like Chris Borich or Johnny Gallagher or any of those top guys.

Alright, before we wrap this up, who would you like to thank?
First, I’d like to thank my mom and my dad for all that they do, I could never thank them enough. My sister Rachel, Barry Hesson for putting in countless hours on my bike so I’m ready every single weekend, Chris Borich, Joe Borich and the whole Borich bandit crew, Johhny Gallagher, the Howarth family, everybody out there that’s racing with me that makes all of it so much fun, Bromley Cycle, MGX Graphics, Maxxis, Highlands Powersports, and Hiper Wheels. See you all at Unadilla!
