2009 John Penton GNCC
Team Off Camber Racing/Fastway/Klim
The Off-Camber, Fastway Performance, Pro Moto Billet, Klim Gear, Rekluse Clutch, Yamaha Race Team was in Millfield, Ohio this weekend for the John Penton GNCC. The race was hot and dusty around the moto-cross and muddy in the woods. Everyone on the team got awesome starts and went into the woods, either first or second in their class. However, the entire team had to fight either getting lost during the race or bike troubles to finish the race.
Randy Mastin, Amanda Mastin and Cody Mastin, raced in the morning event. Randy finished 3rd in the Masters A class and a very respectful 22nd Overall. Randy is still holding down 2nd in the Overall Standings, again two of the riders in Randy's class finished well into the top ten Overall. Randy's goal for the day was to catch his son Cody, which he did, however, his daughter Amanda caught him. Amanda got the holeshot and never looked back, until she was right on her dad's tail. However, she missed an arrow and spent 5 minutes finding her way back to the race course. At that point, she was 6 minutes down to the leader and found herself in 3rd place. Amanda quickly chased down 2nd place and put her head down to catch first. However, there was not enough time left in the race and she had to settle for 2nd place, less than 30 seconds behind the leader. Amanda is still 1st in the Overall Points Standings and is looking forward to going out West and racing the National Enduros. Cody lined up in the Sportsman class and looked forward to racing a GNCC, after not racing one for more than a year due to his injury. Cody got a good jump at the start and was in 3rd going into the woods, but like his sister he blew an arrow and wasted 5 minutes making his way back to the race course, allowing the leaders to get away and his dad to catch up to him. Cody rode hard, and his lap times improved as the race went on. Cody finished a very respectful 27th Overall and would have been inside the top 20, if not for getting lost.
Morgan Moss once again got the holeshot and was quickly up into the A classes on the first lap, even catching his teammate Duane Conner. However, on the last lap Morgan's front suspension came apart and he rode the entire last lap with no front suspension. Morgan still won his class and finished an unbelievable 32nd Overall. Morgan is still 1st in the 250 B Overall points. Duane Conner also got the holeshot and was leading his class into the woods, but like Amanda and Cody, got lost on the trail and had to work his way back up to the leaders and Morgan. Duane pushed hard all day and ended up winning his class by several minutes and was an outstanding 22nd Overall. Duane is currently 2nd in the Overall points and needs to keep riding strong to win the series. Our English Mate Rudy Austin race Vet B and was looking for a win in his adopted home state of Ohio. Rudy finally got a good start and was in 1st going into the woods, but he had a get off and the motorcycle did not want to start. Rudy was able to work up to 4th at one point, before he had trouble with the bike again. After kicking the bike in the heat of Ohio, Rudy was exhausted. He ended up 8th in his Class and
127th Overall. Rudy is currently 4th in the Overall points and needs some good finishes if he wants to have a chance at winning his class.
The next races for some of the team is the Western National Enduros in Wyoming and Montana, while the other half of the team will be racing the Snowshoe GNCC in West Virginia.
