Welcome to Quick Fill.

The summer break is beginning to wind down as we are now just a little over three weeks out from a return to GNCC Racing. In many ways it seems like this summer break has absolutely flown by but taking a look back it’s been a whole nine weeks since we were all last together at the Snowshoe GNCC. No matter which way you feel, you’re undoubtedly excited to get back into the swing of things and it’s pretty likely that these last three weeks will fly by pretty darn quick.

Obviously, our staff has continued to stay wide open rolling from Loretta Lynn’s, a group over to Budds Creek for Pro Motocross and a big chunk of us here at Ironman Raceway for this weekend’s Pro Motocross season finale. Naturally, if you’re looking for some fun this weekend come on out to Ironman and enjoy a great weekend of Pro Motocross action. Jett Lawrence wrapped the 450 title up at Unadilla a few weeks back and is still 20-0 on moto wins this season. However, he didn’t lead the entire first moto last week at Budds Creek and Chase Sexton gave him a run for his money in the second moto, so it will be interesting to see if he can pull off a perfect season or if someone can play spoiler in this final round. Then on the 250 side, there’s still a hunt for the championship there so there is definitely a good bit of exciting racing to take place this weekend.

You can join in on the fun as well! We have amateur practice on Friday and amateur racing on Sunday, so you can come out and ride the Ironman motocross track throughout the weekend including an all-new section that ventures over into what has been the Monster Mile section of the GNCC course the last few years. You can get all the info you need at ironmanraceway.com

On the GNCC side, obviously things are still a little on the quiet side since we’re deep into the summer break. Even with our staff busy at other events we’ve still found some time to look into potential new venues for 2024 and beyond. Jeff Russell and Ryan Echols have been working with a pretty cool new venue that they say could ultimately end up being a little bit on the old-school side if everything comes together and the owner there is very motivated to make it happen. So, keep your fingers crossed and we’ll share more info as it comes available.

I had a number of discussions with a different venue that previously hosted some very, very large stock car races, and no this one was not Talladega as the rumors flew around a while back The facility was all in on putting something together, but they do not own enough wooded acreage for a GNCC course. They do have a very good neighbor who works with them and has a fair amount of wooded acreage but unfortunately this neighbor had some other conflicts out of their control that does not allow them to let us use enough of their property for a racecourse. So, while this could’ve been a really cool location for a race it looks as if things aren’t going to pan out this time but maybe things can work out down the road.

With that said, we’re still open to suggestions for various facilities and have heard from a few that we do want to take a look at in the next few months. We typically look for somewhere around 500 acres with a range of 75-100+ acres for parking. If you have somewhere that might work, especially in the southeast, drop me a line at [email protected] with some details. We’ll take a look at information on anything, anywhere but somewhere in the southeast would be a big bonus right now, which will help us big time with those early season double events.

As I mentioned earlier, we’re neck deep in preparations for this weekend’s Ironman Pro Motocross event, then next weekend is actually off before things heat up again as part of our staff will be in Charlotte for the first-ever SuperMotocross World Championship playoff round at Z-Max Dragway. This is sure to be a really cool event as well and we’re pretty excited to see how the whole SMX playoffs pans out. With that said, we’re going to wrap up this week’s edition of Quick Fill and get back into the Thursday heat here at Ironman (thankfully its supposed to cool off and be pretty nice for the weekend). So, enjoy your weekend and we hope to see a bunch of you here at Ironman this weekend!
