The Specialized General: ATV Race Report
Brycen Neal Undefeated After Three Rounds

WASHINGTON, Ga. (March 10, 2024) – Round three, The Specialized General, of the 2024 Progressive Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship, saw rainy and muddy conditions throughout the duration of Saturday’s racing. However, not all was gloomy during the day as the series celebrated 4x4 ATV Racing Pioneer, Mike Penland, and dubbed the day as “Mike Penland Day” at the Georgia race.

The rain stopped for the afternoon race, but muddy conditions had already set in for the day. When the green flag flew it was Action Off-Road/GBC/Houser Racing’s Wyatt Wilkin jumping out and grabbing the Kanati Tires XC1 Pro holeshot award, but it wouldn’t take long for Phoenix Racing Yamaha’s Brycen Neal to get into the lead position.

Neal would continue lead the way for the duration of the race, earning his third-straight win of the season and remaining undefeated thus far in 2024. The battles would be intense behind Neal as WFR/GBC/Fly Racing/BNR/Yamaha’s Walker Fowler made his way up from a sixth place start to finish second overall on the day after making a last lap pass for the position.

After grabbing the holeshot, Action Off-Road/GBC/Houser Racing’s Wyatt Wilkin would continue to run second for the first half of the race. Wilkin would try to hold off Fowler but would be unable to make a pass back. Wilkin would hold on to finish third overall on the day and in XC1, earning his career best finish at round three.

Hunter Hart Racing/Fly Racing/Ithaca Recreation Sports’ Hunter Hart would come through to finish fourth overall after running in fifth for the first two laps of the race. Coming through fifth overall was Action Off-Road/AMSOIL/CB Racing’s Chris Borich, earning his best finish thus far in the season.

Action Off-Road/Maxxis/Fly Racing/Lonestar’s Austin Abney would work his way up to sixth in XC1 after coming through in eighth on the opening lap. Action Off-Road/GBC/BNR Motorsports’ Joshua Merritt also had his work cut out for him as he started back in the 12th place position. Merritt would continue to push, coming through seventh.

BNR Motorsports/Fearless/Kenda’s Steven Harrell would cross the finish line in eighth after battling through the mud. McGill Mafia/OBOR Tires/Moose Racing’s Adam McGill was off to a good start as he ran third on the opening lap but would run into some problems on the third lap and ultimately cross the finish line ninth in XC1.

Rounding out the top 10 in XC1 was Bullet Proof Doorz/BNR Motorsports/Senge Graphics’ Ronnie Rusch. Action Off-Road/Pierce Performance John Glauda Jr. would come through 11th in XC1, and unfortunately JMR/GBC/Elka/Moose Racing’s Jarrod McClure would only be able to complete one lap during the race.

Grayson Eller clinched the XC2 Pro-Am class win in Georgia.

In the XC2 Pro-Am class it was Pierce Performance/GBC/Action Off-Road’s Dylan Walraven jumping off the line first to earn himself the $100 BNR Motorsports XC2 holeshot award. Battles would ensure for the duration of the race in the XC2 class with multiple different leaders, however as the white flag flew it would be Walraven battling with Phoenix Racing Yamaha’s Grayson Eller for that number one spot.

Eller would make the pass on Walraven during that last lap and would make it stick as he came through the finish with a 51 second lead in the class. Walraven would hold onto second as he made his way through. Mountain Motor Works/Cecco Racing/BNR/Maxxis’ Christopher Howard would battle at the front of the pack for the duration of the race, even holding the lead on lap two, but he would be unable to hold off Eller and Walraven ultimately coming through to earn third in the XC2 class.

Earning the Specialized General GNCC Top Amateur honors would be the #333 of Brody Lee as he came through 13th overall, while earning the College A (16-18) class win. Jordan Berg would be second on the Top Amateur podium as he came through 19th overall on the day, and he finished second in the College A class. Kevin Yoho would come through in 20th overall to round out the Top Amateur podium, but he would also earn himself the Vet A (28+) class win in the muddy Georgia conditions.

Brandon Frazier earned the 4x4 Pro win, and the commemorative General GNCC Mike Penland #1 plate.

The 4x4 Pro class had a special race in Georgia as the winner received a special commemorative Mike Penland #1 plate at the conclusion of the race. However, to get to that point would be a muddy mess. As the class took off it was Kenda/KMK/Ryco Electric’s Cody Collier grabbing the $100 holeshot award courtesy of BNR Motorsports, but after two laps of battling for the lead Collier’s day would be cut short due to a crash that left his machine unable to finish.

Pro Row 784/TMS/Edgewood/DeRisi’s Brandon Frazier would soon make his way into the lead after the start of the race, and he would continue to hold that position until the checkered flag came out. Frazier would be awarded the Mike Penland #1 plate and share some special words about the ATV Pioneer.

Solesbee Racing/OBOR/DeRisi/Fly Racing’s Branson Solesbee found himself battling for a podium position as the white flag came out, indicating one more lap to go. As he came through in third, he would continue to push and battle with KMK Off-Road/OBOR/FXR’s Kaden Wharff for that second place position. Solesbee would make the pass on Wharff and come through to earn second in the class, while Wharff held onto third in the 4x4 Pro class and overall, in the morning race.

Jessica Elioff came back to make a last lap pass for the WXC win.

As the WXC class took off it was Waynesburg Yamaha/Kenda Tires/FXR’s Emily Wise grabbing herself the $100 BNR Motorsports WXC holeshot award and making her way into the muddy conditions first. Wise would continue to hold the lead for the first three laps of the race; however, Elioff Racing/BNR Motorsports/GBC Tire’s Jessica Elioff was making her way up through the pack. Elioff would battle Wise during the last lap, making the pass for the lead and coming through to earn her third-straight win of the season.

Waynesburg Yamaha/Kenda Tires/FXR’s Emily Wise would hold on to finish second in the WXC class, her best WXC finish thus far in the season and her career. Kenda Tires/Moose Racing/Teixeira Tech’s Hannah Hunter would have her work cut out for her as she came through tenth on the opening lap. Hunter would put her head down and push forward making her way up to fourth by the second lap, and then into the last podium position by the time the checkered flag was flying.

The rain continued throughout the morning, making the youth ATV race another interesting one in Georgia. Noah Lykins would lead from start to finish, earning his second-straight youth overall and YXC1 Super Mini Sr. (13-15) class win of the season. Kole Brandt and Garret Cox would battle back-and-forth for the duration of the race, with Brandt making a last lap pass to take over second overall and in class as he crossed the finish line. Cox would hold on to finish third overall and in the YXC1 class.

In the YXC2 Super Mini Jr. (12-13) it would be Jackson Hancock making his way into the lead on the second lap, and holding that position until the checkered flag flew, earning the class win at round three. Jacob Smallwood would be making his way up to second in YXC2 after starting the day back in fifth. Evan Leisure held the lead for the opening lap of the race in the YXC2 class, but he would be unable to hold off Hancock and Smallwood and would cross the line third in his class.
