GNCC Racing Heads to Florida For 6th Annual Moose Racing Wild Boar
Fowler Aims to Keep Momentum Rolling in Florida
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 3, 2020) – This weekend round two of the 2020 Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship, heads to the sunshine state of Florida for the 6th Annual Moose Racing Wild Boar GNCC at Hog Waller in Palatka.
Two weeks ago, at the season opener it was WFR/GBC/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Walker Fowler earning the win in South Carolina. Fowler is laser-focused on taking home his sixth-straight National Championship this year, and will be aiming to earn another win at the second round of GNCC Racing.
Action Off-Road/Tely Energy Racing/Kenda’s Cole Richardson came through second at the first round of racing, but this weekend he will be looking to take away that number one position from Fowler. Richardson finished in the runner-up position in Florida last season as well, therefore gaining a lot of determination to take home that victory this weekend.
Starting off his season by rounding out the overall podium in South Carolina was JMR/GBC/Elka/Moose Racing’s Jarrod McClure. Coming into the second round of racing for 2020, McClure is looking to put a stop to the Yamaha domination. McClure is also hoping for better luck in Florida this year, as he was only able to complete two of the laps in 2019.
Coming through fourth overall aboard a new team at round one was Phoenix Honda Racing’s Chris Borich. This is the second consecutive season that Borich has rode aboard the #3 machine, but he is looking to turn that around and battle for his seventh National Championship.
HHR/Maxxis/Fly Racing/Ithaca Recreation Sports’ Hunter Hart comes off round one with a top five finish, and heads into round two hoping to keep his momentum rolling. Hart is eager to battle up front, and go for his second-ever XC1 Pro class win.
Coming into the XC1 Pro class as the rookie, Pierce Performance/GBC Tires/Fly Racing’s John Glauda Jr. came through to earn sixth overall at the opening round. Glauda Jr. earned the XC2 National Championship last season, and is hoping for a successful rookie season.
BNR Motorsports/GBC/HMF Engineering’s Josh Merritt and Wolfe Racing/Nine2/FTR Graphics/Ye Olde Cycle Barn’s Westley Wolfe came through seventh and eighth overall at the Big Buck GNCC. Merritt and Wolfe will both look to work their way through the pack this weekend, aiming for better finishing positions.
GBC/Fly Racing/HMF/Yamaha’s Johnny Gallagher and Covert Racing/Custom Axis/Waynesburg Yamaha’s Greg Covert rounded out the top 10 overall in South Carolina. Both riders will aim to battle at the front of the pack at round two this Saturday afternoon.
Taking the XC2 Pro-Am class win at round one was LanMills XC/WFR/Magna1 Lubricants Drew Landers. This weekend, Landers will aim to earn the class win again, and move himself up in the overall standings. Coming through second was Action Off-Road/Maxxis/Blud Lubricants’ Austin Abney. As the series heads to Florida, Abney will be eager to battle for a class win. Abney will also aim for a better finishing result in the sunshine state than what had happened last year.
Jordan Poplaskie rounded out the podium at the opening round of GNCC Racing followed by Branden Owens and Dylan Walraven making up the top five in XC2. Poplaskie will be looking to take home an XC2 Pro-Am class win, and get back into the championship hunt.
Specialized will be hosting a ride with Ashley Hendershot, 2019 Women's eMTB National Champion on Friday and Saturday at 5 p.m. You will meet at the Specialized display in Sponsor Village. Demo bikes will be available on a first come first serve basis, and this is a ride for any skill level of rider. For more special event information check out the Big Buck event page by clicking HERE.
Four-wheeled ATVs will compete throughout the day on Saturday, March 7. Youth ATV racing begins at 8 a.m., followed by Micro ATVs at 9:15 a.m. and Micro bike racing at 10 a.m., then the amateurs, 4x4 pro and women at 11 a.m., and the pros and top amateurs' race at 2 p.m.
