Fowler Heads into Parts Unlimited Unadilla GNCC
with Eyes Set on National Championship
MORGANTOWN, W.Va (September 7, 2017) – After a two-month break the 2017 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series, presented by Maxxis, an AMA National Championship, picks back up with the remaining four rounds of the 13-race circuit. As the season begins to come to a close, WFR/Yamaha/Maxxis/Fly Racing’s Walker Fowler has the chance to close his title fight at the 13th Annual Parts Unlimited Unadilla GNCC this Saturday in New Berlin, New York.
Fowler has been nothing short of dominate this year, winning every round but one where he still finished second. His record pushes him in a position to be able to secure his third national championship this weekend if he continues his success streak. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Fowler finds himself with some close competition after his competitors had the summer break to continually train and advance as well.
With only a handful of rounds remaining, CST/Induction Solutions/LSR/HiPer/Spider Graphix’s Adam McGill is still searching for an overall win. There’s no doubt that McGill is capable of standing in the middle of the box, and his eagerness to do so is only getting at an all-time high as the season winds down. After a disappointing seventh place finish at last year’s Unadilla GNCC, McGill will be looking for double redemption this weekend.
This Saturday may serve as the perfect opportunity for Coastal Racing’s Brycen Neal to put it all together and earn his first professional career win. With seven top-five finishes, including four podiums, the Ohio native sits within striking distance of Chris Borich in the championship points standings.
Borich will be one to keep an eye on after his second place run at the John Penton GNCC. The six-time National Champion Borich, will look to return to his winning ways this weekend, while JMR/ATVriders.com’s Jarrod McClure will look to return to the podium after a six-round hiatus.
The top three competitors in the XC2 Pro-Am class are only separated by a total of 23 points heading into this weekend. While M.R. Unlimited/Hygear Suspension/GBC Tires/Tire Spine’s Devon Feehan has a small cushion over Ithaca Recreation/Maxxis/Quad Tech/Storm Peak Crossfit’s Hunter Hart and Hygear Suspensions-backed Greg Covert, the trio has constantly swapped class wins and the “home-state boys” are sure to put on a show as they go head-to-head for the class win from the second row on Saturday afternoon.
Saturday’s race schedule is as follows: Youth ATV racing begins at 8 a.m., followed by amateurs, 4x4 Pro and Women at 10 a.m., and the pros and top amateurs race at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon will also include 50cc Micro racing taking place at 4:30 p.m.
Adult (12+) gate admission is $20 for the full weekend and $10 for kids (6-11), with kids five and under free. Gate admission includes pro pit access and pro autographs at no additional charge. Camping is reserved for racers, their families and AMA members only. There is no fan camping permitted at this event.
This weekend is co-sanctioned with WNYOA, a series that produces local racing events in New York, and will ultimately bring out a full slate of local racers. All local racers are invited to compete at this event, as GNCC Racing offers classes for riders of all skill and experience levels. The amateur race entry fee is $50 and riders sign up at the track. To learn more about GNCC Racing, refer to the GNCC 101 webpage.
Local racers expected to compete Saturday on ATVs will be: Hunter Hart (XC2 Pro-Am), Mason Harrington (50 Open Jr. 4-6), Devon Feehan (XC2 Pro-Am), Katelyn Osburn (WXC), Mikey Nickels (Schoolboy Sr. 14-17), Greg Covert (XC2 Pro-Am), Daniel Sill (24+ C), Cole Jaquish (College B 16-21), Marty Christofferson (XC1 Pro), Ahraya Whitt (50 Open Sr. 7-9), Scott Pierson (College A 16-21), brother Steven (Junior A 22+) and Greg Covert (XC2 Pro-Am) and Boedy Lamoreaux (College A 16-21).
