The 2017 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Maxxis, an AMA National Championship, is set to continue this weekend, April 8 and 9, with the 18th Annual FMF Steele Creek GNCC. Taking place at the Steele Creek Campground in Morganton, North Carolina, the Steele Creek GNCC is one of the most popular stops on the 13-round race circuit. WFR/Yamaha/Maxxis/Fly Racing’s Walker Fowler heads into Round 4 with three wins and a comfortable points lead, but behind him is a whole stack of XC1 Pro riders aiming to halt his success.

Fowler holds a 22-point advantage over the rest of the field after sweeping the first three rounds of the season, but the reigning champion knows the road to success doesn’t come without a few bumps along the way. Fowler’s been quoted in the past saying that Steele Creek isn’t his best track, but he managed to take the win here just one year ago and will look to carry that momentum into this weekend.

Currently sitting in second is JMR/ATVriders.com’s Jarrod McClure, who is setting himself up for a season best finish. At the previous round, McClure was able to work his way through the pack and earn a podium finish after starting outside the top-ten. If McClure can get off to a better start, he may just have what it takes to take home his first overall win of the year.

Following a fourth place in Georgia, Coastal Racing’s Brycen Neal will be looking for redemption. Neal lead majority of the two-hour race until making a mistake just a few short miles from the finish line. The Ohio-native is known for his ability to run with the front runners and will contend for his first overall win this Saturday.

After leading majority of the Cannonball GNCC, Brycen Neal will be charging to put it all together and claim the top spot of the box at the FMF Steele Creek GNCC.

Six-time GNCC Champion, Chris Borich, has yet to finish outside the top-five this year. With only one podium finish to his credit, Borich will be a man-on-a-mission at Steele Creek, where he has found success before.

CST/Induction Solutions/LSR/HiPer/Spider Graphix’s Adam McGill currently sits fifth in the points championship chase. Much like last year, McGill has had a slow start to his season. However, Round 4 was a turning point in McGill’s 2016 season, and could provide the perfect opportunity for McGill to claim the top spot on the box for the first time in 2017.

Adam McGill was able to turn his 2016 season around at Round 4 last year. The Honda-mounted rider will be looking to do the same this year.

Another racer who has shown great speed and consistency thus far is GBC/Canyon Motorsports/Fly Racing-backed Landon Wolfe who holds the sixth-place position in the points championship. Dillinger's Celtic Pub/GBC Motorsports/Moose Racing’s Marty Christofferson has also shown that he has the speed to compete with the sport’s veterans where he holds the seventh-place position, followed by Shockworx Motorsports/Spider Graphics/GBC Tires-backed Tucker Wyatt in eighth and Brian Wolf in ninth. GBC/Fly Racing/HMF/Yamaha’s Johnny Gallagher rounds out the XC1 Pro top ten as the series moves to North Carolina.

M.R. Unlimited/Hygear Suspension/GBC Tires/Tire Spine’s Devon Feehan currently leads the points in the XC2 Pro-Am division. The rookie has placed on the podium at every round thus far and holds a 13-point lead over Ithaca Recreation/Maxxis/Quad Tech/Storm Peak Crossfit’s Hunter Hart in second and reigning champion Greg Covert in third.

Reigning XC2 Pro-Am champion, Greg Covert, recently moved into third in the points chase. The New York-based rider will aim to secure his first win of the season at Steele Creek.
