PHOENIX RACING HONDA RETURNS TO THE TOP
OF THE PODIUM AT CAMP COKER
Round Four of the Progressive GNCC Series, the 2026 FMF Camp Coker Bullet, brought Phoenix Racing Honda to Society Hills, South Carolina, for one of the most anticipated and challenging stops on the national calendar. Since its addition to the GNCC schedule in 2016, Camp Coker has quickly become a favorite among riders and fans alike for its varied terrain, flowing woods sections, fast field runs, and unpredictable sandy-loam surfaces that demand both speed and stamina from competitors.
The property at Moree’s Sportsman’s Preserve, which hosts the event, offers a uniquely demanding course that blends old motocross sections with tight singletrack and wideopen trail segments, a combination that rewards strategic racing and resilience as the laps wear on.
This year’s edition delivered just that and more for Phoenix Racing Honda, with topfive efforts across multiple classes, a first win with the team, and significant moves in the championship standings, setting the tone for continued momentum as the series heads toward Round Five in Kentucky.
Ashburn Makes the Most of Round Four
Ashburn delivered a solid performance this weekend, overcoming a track he doesn’t mesh well with. He capitalized on a strong start and spent the first four laps in a podium position, but ultimately crossed the finish line in fifth. He exits this round third in the XC1 Open Pro points standings and is motivated to continue building momentum heading into round five.
“Camp Coker is always a tough track for me. It doesn’t really suit my style, but I’m happy to come away with a fifth this weekend. I got a great start, which helped a lot in the dry conditions. After that, it was all about buckling down and hitting my lines.” - Jordan Ashburn
Witkowski Battles Through Penalty
Witkowski crossed the finish line in first on the opening lap, setting a strong early pace.
However, a thirty second penalty at the end of lap one put him at a disadvantage. Despite the penalty, Witkowski remained competitive, holding third place after lap two before gradually working his way back to finish eighth. The weekend provided valuable lessons as he looks ahead to the next round, determined to refine his setup and return stronger. He leaves the dust of Camp Coker fifth in points, only one point behind fourth.
“Yeah, it was a tough one for me. I made things harder on myself with a 30-second penalty at the end of lap one. From there, I worked my way back into a good position, but I ultimately struggled with a new setup this round and just couldn’t ride like myself for the rest of the race.” - Mike Witkowski
Victory in Coker for Riordan
After a challenging start to the season and issues at the previous two rounds that put both Gus Riordan and the team under pressure, Riordan delivered a major turnaround at the Society Hills round. Coming off two DNFs, he knew a strong performance was essential to get back on track for the championship. Rising to the occasion, Riordan took the lead early, claimed first place during the opening lap, and held the position through the entire race to earn his first win with the team. With this dominant ride, Riordan now sits fourth in the XC2 250 Pro points standings, keeping a championship podium firmly within reach. The victory represents a significant rebound for both Riordan and the team, showcasing their resilience and setting the stage for an exciting run in the upcoming rounds.
“Coker is one of my favorite venues to race at, so I was stoked to get the win there and earn my first win for Phoenix. I took the lead about halfway through the first lap and held it all the way to the checkered flag. I didn’t do anything crazy, I just focused on racing my own race.” - Gus Riordan
Podium Highlights Jones’ Weekend
Jones returned to a course she loves, and the results did not disappoint. She got off to a strong start and positioned herself into fourth on the opening lap. She steadily made her way forward despite a few early mistakes and had to navigate the challenging obstacles and heavy traffic requiring focus and skill. She went on to secure her first podium of the season, crossing the finish line in second. Jones also collected valuable points to strengthen her championship standings.
“Camp Coker is always one of my favorite races of the year, and I was excited coming into this round. I got off to a solid start and entered the woods in third. I made a few mistakes on the first lap, but I found my groove again and started charging forward. The track got really gnarly and the lappers were tough to manage, but overall it was a great race and I’m stoked to grab my first podium of the year.” - Tayla Jones
Landers Takes Lead in Points
Landers delivered a determined ride in the 250A class, battling a vine caught in his front wheel on the opening lap but keeping his composure and working his way up from ninth place. With skill and grit, he brought home a fifth-place finish for the weekend. The result also moved him into the lead in the points standings, giving both him and the team plenty of motivation heading into the next round in Kentucky.
“It was a rough weekend for me. I had a bad start and got stuck in the dust early on. I started making some moves toward the front, but around the three mile mark on the first lap, I caught a vine in my front wheel and had to ride a couple of miles like that until I found help to get it out. It kept locking up my front brake. By the time I got it cleared, I was about halfway through the class behind our row, so I knew I had my work cut out for me. I just fought through the dust the best I could and came through the first lap about two minutes behind the leader in 250A. I did everything I could, but I really wanted to be up front. I am going to work on my starts over the next couple of weeks and keep improving.” - Chase Landers
Reflecting on Camp Coker
“This weekend marked a step in the right direction for a team that has faced significant challenges over the opening rounds,” said David Elder, team owner of Phoenix Racing Honda. “Early races brought tough conditions, crashes, technical issues, and more, so Camp Coker was a breath of fresh air. Gus and the team finally captured their maiden win together, which felt like it had been a long time coming. That gives us all a little less weight on our shoulders heading into the week.
Tayla’s ride was another big positive for the team, as getting more Hondas on the podium remains a key goal. While we would have liked to see more of our riders reach the podium, we’re not dwelling on it. It’s just great to be back on track and have a clear path to the front once again.”
