Merritt Earns Second Overall Win; Neal Clinches Fourth Overall National Championship

BECKLEY, W.Va. (September 21, 2025) – The Progressive Grand National Cross Country (GNCC Racing) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship, roared to life this weekend with The Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Mountaineer GNCC at the world-class scouting reserve, Summit Bechtel Reserve, in Beckley, West Virginia.

Set against the rugged Appalachian terrain, the course challenged riders with a demanding mix of rocky climbs and technical woods sections. The Mountaineer GNCC once again proved why it’s a premier stop on the circuit as it blends breathtaking scenery with intense racing action.

Merritt Racing/BNR Motorsports/GBC’s Joshua Merritt powered his way to an impressive victory, securing his second GNCC ATV Overall win with a performance that left no doubt about his growing momentum this season. Battling through the grueling terrain and relentless competition, Merritt showcased a blend of patience, precision, and sheer determination that kept him at the front of the pack when it mattered most.

Earning his best finish of the season thus far was JMR/GBC/Elka/Moose Racing’s Jarrod McClure as he came through to earn second overall on the day. McClure would have a consistent race as he started in third and moved into second on the second lap of the race. McClure would continue to push himself until the very end, crossing the line just 2.6 seconds ahead of the defending champion.

Phoenix Racing Yamaha’s Brycen Neal capped off round 11 with a solid third-place finish, but the bigger story was his clinching of a fourth Overall GNCC ATV National Championship title. Neal’s consistency and resilience throughout the season proved once again why he’s one of the sport’s elite, as he managed the race with championship strategy in mind while still delivering a podium-worthy performance.

Coming through to earn fourth overall was Stewart Boys Racing/Kenda/Pierce Performance’s Wyatt Wilkin. After battling through to third, Wilkin would continue to manage his position for the next couple of laps. On the last lap, Wilkin would be unable to hold off Neal for the last podium spot, but he would remain fourth for the day as he crossed through the finish line.

Action Off-Road/AMSOIL/CB Racing’s Chris Borich would put in a good ride as he came through to earn a top five finishing position. Borich started out in sixth, but he would make the move into fifth early on in the race. Phoenix Racing Yamaha/Action Off-Road/Pierce Performance’s John Glauda Jr. would come through to finish sixth overall on the day after battling back-and-forth throughout the day.

Making his way through to earn seventh overall on the day was BNR Motorsports/Fearless/Kenda Tire’s Steven Harrell. As the race got underway, Harrell would start in eighth, but after putting his head down and pushing would work his way up as the checkered flag came out. Action Off-Road/Kenda/Custom Axis’ Jay Shadron would come through to take eighth overall after making his way through the pack from an 11th place start.

HHR/Fly Racing/QuadTech’s Hunter Hart did not have the start he hoped for coming into the race but would put his head down and push throughout the two-hour race. As he kept pushing, he would ultimately run out of time to make a real push towards the front and would cross the line ninth in XC1 and tenth overall on the day. Phoenix Racing Yamaha’s Grayson Eller rounded out the top 10 XC1 class finishers, but he would come through 11th overall on the day.

In the XC2 Pro-Am class, CST Tires/LMR Motors/Elka/Fly Racing’s Braxton Grosse put in an exceptional ride to claim the top spot, showcasing speed and consistency from start to finish. Hot on his heels was BNR Motorsports/Pierce Performance/GBC Tire’s Alex Thieman, who kept the pressure on throughout the race to secure a hard-fought second-place finish. Rounding out the podium, BNR Motorsports/Maxxis/PowerMadd’s Jeremiah Wolf delivered a strong performance of his own, navigating the demanding course with determination to earn third. The trio’s efforts highlighted the depth of competition in the XC2 Pro-Am ranks, where every lap is a battle for position and every podium is hard-earned.

Earning the Top Amateur honors at round 11 was College A competitor, Brody Pullen, as he battled through to finish 16th overall on the day and earn his College A class win. Talan Stout would hold the second spot on the Top Amateur podium as he came through in the 22nd overall finishing position and would take second in College A. Rounding out the Top Amateur podium was Junior A class winner, David Muchisko, as he came through in the 23rd overall finishing position at The Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Mountaineer GNCC.

In the AM ATV race, it was 4x4 Pro racer, Kenda/KMK/Ryco Electric’s Cody Collier holding the lead position from start to finish. Collier would get out to early lead and push himself forward ahead of the other competition. Braden Reed would earn himself the $100 BNR Motorsports 4x4 Pro Holeshot Award to start the day, and then Pro Row 784/TMS/Edgewood/DeRisi’s Brandon Frazier would try to close the gap between himself and Collier, but unfortunately after coming through seven seconds off Collier as the white flag flew, Frazier would suffer a mechanical issue and have to be towed in. Collier would hold on to take the AM Overall win and the 4x4 Pro class win.

KMK Off-Road/OBOR/FXR’s Kaden Wharff would have another consistent race at the front of the pack, holding onto third for the majority of the race and then making his way into second overall and in 4x4 Pro as the checkered flag flew. 250 All-Star competitor, Bryce Pullen would find himself on the AM Overall podium again as he finished third overall, while taking home his class win. Black Oak Contracting/Osburn Off-Road/Pro Concept Plumbing’s Dayton Hickey would come through to earn his fourth podium finish of the year in 4x4 Pro as he rounded out the top three finishers on the day.

As the WXC line took off it was Osburn Off-Road/Pierce Performance/Moose Racing’s Chloe Harper grabbing herself the $100 BNR Motorsports WXC Holeshot Award. Harper would continue to lead the way as the race went on. Elioff Racing/BNR Motorsports/GBC Tire’s Jessica Elioff was running in the second place position trying to gain ground on Harper throughout the race. As the checkered flag flew, Harper would cross the finish line earning the WXC win, and she would clinch her first-ever GNCC WXC ATV National Championship. Elioff would cross the line second, while BNR/Kenda/Lonestar’s Avery Collins battled throughout the day to hold onto third in the WXC class.

The ATV Youth brought the same fire and determination as the pros, with young riders leaving nothing on the table in a showcase of raw talent and fierce competition. From the drop of the green flag, the youth classes battled bar-to-bar across the rugged terrain. Kole Brandt would battle through to take the Youth Overall win and YXC1 Super Mini Sr. (13-15) class win. However, that win did not come easy as Stetson Owens continued to push as he crossed the line one second behind him to take second overall and in the YXC1 class. Bodie Buckhannon also put up a fight throughout the race, coming through to earn third overall and in the YXC1 class. The intensity of the racing proved that the future of GNCC is in capable hands, with the next generation already displaying the grit, speed, and heart that define champions.

Jackson Hancock took home the YXC2 Super Mini Jr. (12-13) class win, Levi Ringer earned the win in the 250 (13-15) class, Reese Hoover won the 250 (13-15) Limited class, Brantley Slack earned the 125 (8-12) class win, Kolson Conklin took home the 125 (8-12) Limited class win, Michael Stringfellow won the 90 (8-12) clss, Lakah Carr would earn the Schoolgirl (12-15) class win, while Aubree Nicholson took the Girls Sr. (12-15) class win, Moon Savage took the Girls Jr. (8-11) win and Ryder Tenney took the 70 CVT (6-11) class.

In the first race of the day, Kruz Libecco would take home the Micro ATV Overall win and MXC1 (8-9) class win over Audrey Petrilla and Casen Jennings, who came through second and third overall and in the MXC1 class. Justin Collins would battle through to take the MXC2 (6-8) class win, followed by Kailyn Sampson earning the 50 Sr. (6-7) class win and Rigston Taylor earning the 50 Jr. (4-5) class win. In the 90 Stock (8-9) class it was Gavin Claypool coming through to take home the class win.

Coming through to take his first Micro Overall win was Josh Erny from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Erny would also earn the MXC1 class win ahead of Kane Morrison and Cade Propst who finished second and third overall and in the class. Kash Brummage earned the MXC2 class win, Carson Zink took home the 50 Sr. 1 (7) class win, Jackson Reinhardt earned the 50 Sr. 2 (6) class win, Coy Hill took the 50 Jr. 1 (6-7) class win, while Bentley Ham earned the 50 Jr. 2 (6-7) class win. Addison Richmond would earn the Micro-E1 (7-8) class win, Nathan Zhang came through to earn the Micro-E2 (4-6) class win, Tucker Rodeheaver earned the Micro (4-6) Shaft Drive class win and Jamison Dodson earned the Trail Rider (7-9) class.

The Specialized eMTB Turbo National Championship held its second double-header event this weekend at The Mountaineer GNCC. On Friday it was Cody Pivirotto coming through to take the overall win and XC1 class win, followed by Garrett Stout coming through second overall and second in XC1. Gunnar Shogren rounded out the top three overall finishers and would earn the XC3 (40+) class win on Friday. Tyler Daniels would come through and take the XC2 class win, while Nicole Rupert earned the Women’s class win and Suanne Bishop took the Women (35+) class win. Jon Agin would earn the Masters (55+) class, Dave Brenneman took the Senior (40+) class win on Friday, and Justin Rexing would earn the Big Bore (200lb+) class win. Karder Demidovich earned the Amateur class win and Levi Howard took home the Youth (8-13) class win.

Then on Saturday afternoon as the second round of eMTB racing kicked off it was Garrett Stout pushing through to take the overall win and XC1 class win. Gunnar Shogren and Kenny Hawkins would battle back to take second and third overall in the race, while also going 1-2 in the XC3 (40+) class. Cody Pivirotto would finish second in the XC1 class but would suffer a mechanical issue early on in the race that would put him over 10 minutes behind the leader on the opening lap. Pivirotto would continue to push himself for the duration of the race as he tried to close the gap when the checkered flag flew. Tyler Daniels would take another XC2 class win on Saturday, while Nicole Rupert earned the Women’s class win, and Suzanne Bishop added another win to her season in the Women’s (35+) class. Jon Again took the Masters (55+) win for the second time this weekend, and Brad Myers would cross the line first in the Senior (40+) class. Marty Aloisio would earn the Big Bore (200lb+) class win, Cooper Stickley took home the Amateur eMTB class win while Levi Howard earned his second win of the weekend in the Youth (8-13) class.
