NEWBURG, W.Va. (September 7, 2025) – The Progressive Grand National Cross Country (GNCC Racing) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship, hosted round 10, the Dunlop Buckwheat 100 GNCC, at CJ Raceway in Newburg, West Virginia as the first round back from the summer break.

Phoenix Racing Yamaha’s Brycen Neal triumphed in a dramatic win at the Dunlop Buckwheat 100 round, outriding the competition and crossing the finish line just seconds ahead of the rest of the field—ultimately extending his commanding lead in the overall points standings for the National Championship. His performance not only underlined his consistency and poise under pressure but also solidified his standing at the front of the championship chase.

Merritt Racing/BNR Motorsports/GBC’s Joshua Merritt delivered a heart-pounding performance, climbing his way through the field to secure a stunning second place—just seconds behind Neal. Merritt was “on rails all day long,” staying so close to Neal that he looked poised to challenge for the lead at any moment. Merrit continued to maintain his relentless pace and composure under the pressure, as he held that runner-up position and would come across the line mere seconds adrift of Neal.

Josh Merritt (Merritt Racing/BNR Motorsports/GBC) battled throughout the day and would finish second overall at round 10.

HHR/Fly Racing/QuadTech’s Hunter Hart kicked off the race in spectacular fashion, grabbing the $250 XC1 ATV Holeshot Award and surging ahead right from the start. But as the laps ticked by and the competition tightened, Hart gradually found his momentum fading ever so slightly. In the end, Hart crossed the line in third overall, a commendable podium finish at the tenth round of racing.

Coming through to earn fourth overall on the day was Stewart Boys Racing/Kenda/Pierce Performance’s Wyatt Wilkin. Wilkin would come through ninth on the opening lap, and he would continue to push himself throughout each lap. Wilkin made the necessary passes to put himself inside the top five as the checkered flag flew.

Sturdivant Racing/Maxxis/Moose Racing’s Branden Owens would put in an excellent ride this weekend as he battled back from twelfth place to finish fifth overall on the day. Owens would push himself throughout the two-hour race to place himself in that fifth place position as he came through the finish line.

Hunter Hart (HHR/Fly Racing/QuadTech) earned himself $250 by grabbing the holeshot, and would finish third overall on the day.

Earning sixth overall on the day was BNR Motorsports/Fearless/Kenda Tire’s Steven Harrell. As the race got underway Harrell would maintain his pace as he battled inside the top five. Harrell continued to go back-and-forth with his XC1 competitors, ultaimtely crossing the finish line in sixth.

Richardson Racing’s Cole Richardson made his return to racing this weekend and would put up a fight as he pushed himself into the top 10 early on in the race. As the race wore on, Richardson would hold his position in seventh until making his way through the finish line where the checkered flag was flying.

After coming through tenth on the opening lap, JMR/GBC/Elka/Moose Racing’s Jarrod McClure would push himself for the remainder of the race and cross the line eighth overall on the day. Action Off-Road/AMSOIL/CB Racing’s Chris Borich would battle back and come through ninth in XC1 Pro and tenth overall on the day, while Action Off-Road/Kenda/Custom Axis’ Jay Shadron rounded out the top 10 finishers in the XC1 class and 11th overall.

Unfortunately for championship contender, WFR/Kenda/Fly Racing/BNR’s Walker Fowler – he would suffer a miserable start to the day where he would then have a costly mistake within the next couple of laps. Fowler would try to regain his composure and make a push for the lead, but he would be unable to finish any high than 14th in class and 17th overall on the day.

Alex Thieman (BNR Motorsports/Pierce Performance/GBC) pushed himself throughout the day to earn the XC2 Pro-Am class win.

In the XC2 Pro-Am class, Andrew Banovsky would grab another BNR Motorsports $100 XC2 Holeshot Award, but it wouldn’t take long for the battles to heat up as BNR Motorsports/Pierce Performance/GBC Tire’s Alex Thieman would make his way into the lead on the second lap. Duroy Motosport/Varin Yamaha/Teixeira Tech’s Danick Paquin and CST Tires/LMR Motors/Elka/Fly Racing’s Braxton Grosse showed true determination after tough starts left them buried in the pack early on. Refusing to give in, both riders steadily worked their way through the field, navigating the demanding course with grit and precision. Paquin’s relentless charge carried him into an impressive second-place finish, while Grosse matched the effort with his own late push to secure third.

Talan Stout would come through to earn the Top Amateur honors as he finished first in the College A class and 20th overall on the day. Jordan Berg would come through to stand in second on the Top Amateur podium with a second place in the College A class and a 24th overall finishing position. Ryan Hendershot would take his class win in the Junior A (20+) class, and finish 27th overall, earning him the last spot on the Top Amateur podium at The Dunlop Buckwheat 100 GNCC.

Kenda/KMK/Ryco Electric’s Cody Collier would battle through to take second overall, and first in the 4x4 Pro class after grabbing the BNR Motorsports $100 4x4 Pro Holeshot Award and leading the class for the duration of the race. Pro Row 784/TMS/Edgewood’s Brandon Frazier would try to apply the pressure to Collier, but would be unable to make a pass, crossing the finish line 2.1 seconds behind him to earn third overall and second in 4x4 Pro. KMK Off-Road/OBOR/FXR’s Kaden Wharff  would come through to round out the top three in the 4x4 Pro class after a consistent race for himself.

When the WXC racers took off the line it was JMR/Action Off-Road/GBC/Moose Racing’s Katelyn Osburn earning herself the BNR Motorsports $100 WXC Holeshot Award to start the day. However,  Osburn Off-Road/Pierce Performance/Moose Racing’s Chloe Harper, Osburn Off-Road/Fearless/Kenda’s Hannah Hunter and Elioff Racing/BNR Motorsports/GBC Tire’s Jessica Elioff WXC would battle through tough, muddy conditions to sweep the podium in impressive fashion. Harper powered her way to first place, charging ahead with determination despite the slippery terrain. Hunter stayed close behind, showing grit and control to secure a strong second-place finish. Elioff rounded out the top three, pushing through the challenging course to claim third. Together, their performances highlighted not only their speed but also their resilience in the face of a grueling, mud-soaked race.
