Welcome to Quick Fill.

While the GNCC summer break rolls on, many are beginning to count down the days until the break comes to a close. If you’re keeping track, that count will have you right around 23 days until we kick things back off at the Buckwheat. No, you didn’t read that wrong. We are just around three weeks from going back to GNCC Racing, and this time is going to absolutely fly by and be over before we know what happened.

This year the summer break ends a little sooner than normal and this was done to accommodate the ISDE, which will be taking place October 14-19. There are a number of GNCC competitors who take part in the ISDE, and after the US World Trophy team brought home their third overall victory in 2023 naturally, we want to give everyone the chance to take part again. Obviously, this makes things a little different regarding scheduling but hopefully things are back, mostly, to normal in 2025.

In other summer break news, our crew just wrapped up the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National, and outside of the weather being blazing hot, it was a pretty stellar week of racing. We mentioned a few weeks back some names who are familiar to the GNCC Racing Nation, and there was a fair bit of success for these folks. Thor Powell had an up and down week in the ultra-tough 250 and 450 B Limited classes fighting some bike issues along the way. Thor kicked off the week with a top ten in the 250 B Limited class, and a fifth place in the 450 B Limited. However, the bike issues would then kick in leaving him with a 40th in the second moto of the 250 B Limited, and 37th in the 450 class.

He rebounded to an 8th place in the third moto of the 250 B Limited and limped in with another bike issue to finish the 450 class as well. Even with these issues, Thor was still able to land a respectable 16th overall in the 250 B Limited and 27th overall in 450 B Limited. Considering he spent a lot of time just trying to limp his bike to the finish, these are still very good scores and riding inside the top five for major portions of these motos show a lot of promise for Thor.

Jacob McPherson also rode really well throughout the week. He started off with a 15th place in the 250 C class, and an eighth place in the first moto of 250 C Jr Limited. Improving on that, he would land a fifth place in the second 250 C moto, and another eighth place in the Limited class. The final motos proved to be his best of the week, logging a third place in the 250 C final moto and a seventh in the Limited class. These scores were good enough to give Meatball 4th place overall in the 250 C and a very impressive 3rd place overall in the Limited class, showing that consistency is key!

In the WMX class, Jordan Jarvis rode to a second-place overall finish, along with a win in the final moto of the week. Korie Steede put in a really solid ride of her own taking seventh place in moto one and backing that up with two fifth place finishes in the second and third motos. This would be good enough for Korie to end the week fifth place overall. Then Tayla Jones pulled triple duty at the Ranch. She came down a few days early and helped us get campers in and parked, then came out on the racetrack and helped on the infield and did some racing of her own. Tayla kicked off the week with a fifth-place finish in moto one, then two seventh place finishes to end the week sixth place overall. Lastly in WMX, Shelby Rolen put together a solid week as well going 9-10-9 for ninth place overall.

Caleb Wood and Brayden Baisley contested the ultra-competitive Supermini classes. These classes often have the next crop of pro talent and are stacked deep with some incredibly fast up and comers. Brayden put together a good week going 26-18-19 for 18th in the Supermini 1 class, and then 16-22-16 for 16th overall in the Supermini 2 class. Caleb would suffer a DNF for moto 1 of the Supermini 1 class, then go 33-29 for 35th, and 13-16-30 in Supermini 2 for 17th overall. Again, these are incredibly tough classes and these are very good finishes for these guys!

Phoenix Honda team manager Heath Harrison would put together 2-2-3 moto scores in the Junior 25+ class to take third overall, and also 6-16-7 scores in the Open Pro Sport class for 8th overall. Noah Stevens is the brother of Seth Stevens who was one of the top XC1 eMTB racers a couple seasons ago (and has also raced some GNCC and Mideast Hare Scrambles himself). Noah had a really great week at the ranch taking home the College 18-24 National Championship with 1-2-1 moto scores, and a 4th place overall in the Open Pro Sport with 4-5-8 moto scores.

The work continues are part of our crew is still down at Loretta’s for this weekend’s ATV Motocross finale, while part of us made the trek out of Loretta’s to head to either Unadilla for this weekend’s Pro Motocross event, or on over to Budds Creek where Pro Motocross will head to next week. Just because GNCC is on summer break, we’ve still got a lot of work going on no matter where we’re at, and the Ironman round of Pro Motocross is just a couple weeks away as well. So, with that said we’re going to wrap up this week’s edition of Quick Fill here. Enjoy your weekend and we’ll see you back here next week for another edition of Quick Fill!
