Progressive GNCC Racing Heads to New Venue in Tennessee This Weekend
MONTEREY, Tenn. (April 12, 2024) – The Progressive Grand National Cross Country (GNCC Racing) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship, makes its way to Monterey, Tennessee this weekend for round five at The Old Gray. As mother nature continued to let the rain fall prior to the gates opening at the GNCC event this weekend, the ground looks to be drying up, while the woods are continuing to look in great shape for the weekend’s event.
This event will also host the first round of the Specialized eMTB GNCC National Championship on Friday afternoon. Defending Champions, Cypress Gorry is looking to hold off the rest of the competition this evening in the XC1 Pro class and earn the first win of the season. It will look to be an intense race this afternoon with an all-new location and terrain for most of these eMTB racers.
On Saturday, Phoenix Racing Yamaha’s Brycen Neal is hoping he can keep his win-streak alive and earn his fifth-straight win of the season, however he will have to hold off his fellow competitors like WFR/GBC/Fly Racing/BNR Yamaha’s Walker Fowler and Action Off-Road/GBC/BNR Motorsports’ Josh Merritt just to name a couple. All these XC1 Pro racers are looking to stop Neal’s dominance in the ATV ranks this weekend, while Hunter Hart Racing/Fly Racing/Ithaca Recreation Sports’ Hunter Hart is looking for redemption after his misfortune at the previous round.
Saturday morning will also look to be action packed as the day will start off with the Micro ATV racing followed by Micro Bike and Youth ATV racing. These upcoming stars of the GNCC Racing Nation are ones to keep an eye on as one day they’ll be moving up through the ranks to take over that pro line in the afternoon.
In the 11 am race, it will be the 4x4 Pro and WXC lines taking off first where Kenda/KMK/Ryco Electric’s Cody Collier is hoping for a better ending to his day than he had in South Carolina. Pro Row 784/TMS/Edgewood/DeRisi’s Brandon Frazier is another one looking to have a better weekend after machine complications left him with just one lap. However, Solesbee Racing/OBOR/DeRisi/Fly Racing’s Branson Solesbee is aiming for that center spot in the class once again. Osburn Off-Road/Pierce Performance/Moose Racing’s Chloe Harper will be aiming to land on that overall podium once again and take another WXC win this season. However, she’ll have plenty of competition from Elioff Racing/BNR/GBC’s Jessica Elioff and Kenda/Moose Racing/Teixeira Tech’s Hannah Hunter
Then on Sunday the bikes will take over the venue with youth motorcycles racing at 8 am. As these young racers take off, they will once again be putting on a show for all to see as they have had some of the best battles for the overall wins this season. The battles between Kawasaki’s Caleb Wood and Husqvarna’s Brayden Baisley have been the ones at the front to keep an eye on.
Then in the 10 am race it will be the WXC racers headlining the race as they take off first and head onto the course. FMF KTM Factory Racing Lander’s Brandy Richards earn the win last weekend, but Rockstar Energy Factory Husqvarna Racing’s Korie Steede was running up front with her all day. Unfortunately, Steede would run out of gas on the last lap, costing her a podium finish. This weekend you can bet that Steede will have that fire under her to battle at the front for a win. Rocky Mountain Red Bear Kawasaki’s Rachael Archer is hoping to make a comeback this weekend and land her machine in the center of the box. Sherco USA/Moose/Rachel Gutish Racing’s Rachel Gutish made a push for a podium finish, and once again will look to make that same push this weekend.
In the afternoon it’ll be an all-out battle for the overall win in Tennessee. FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Johnny Girroir continues to lead the way after earning the first two overall wins and finish second overall at the previous two races. Girroir is once again aiming to earn that overall win this weekend and gain some more valuable points in the National Championship standings. Rocky Mountain Red Bear Kawasaki’s Steward Baylor is looking to battle at the front of the pack and earn what could be his first win of the season. Girroir’s teammate, Dante Oliveira, who earned the win last round, could be a potential threat once again as he’s got momentum coming into an all-new course. In the XC2 250 Pro class it looks to be the same as the competition has been intense with three different winners in the first four races.
On Friday and Saturday, the Monster Energy concert series returns with The Scarecrow and Ole 60 headlining the music on Friday evening starting at 8 PM. Then on Saturday the music will kick off at 8 PM with Cherokee Hope, and then Chad Hancock and Ty Gregory will take the stage to finish out the night. ePeeWee Racing will take place on Saturday at 5:00 PM near the finish line area, and a Supercross Watch Party will take place Saturday starting at 7 PM near the concert stage.
