Welcome to Quick Fill.
The summer break is coming to a close as this point next week GNCC will begin piling into the Summit Bechtel Reserve for The Mountaineer GNCC. Hopefully you have made as many of the last-minute preparations as possible because this final week will ultimately fly by and we’ll be back to racing for the final three rounds of the season, before we even know what happened. As usual, The Mountaineer promises to be a really great event and if you’ve never been to this one before, you’ll definitely want to check it out.
The Mountaineer is definitely not an easy racecourse by no means. The rocky and mountainous terrain just gets more and more challenging as the weekend wears on but the venue itself is so picturesque that you can’t help smiling as you arrive. The lush green grass and seemingly endless level parking can give a first timer the wrong impression as all of this disappears pretty quickly once you’re out on the racecourse. Regardless, once you make it back to the pits, it’s a nice area to unwind from the race before the trek home.
We’ll have all the latest on what to expect out on the racecourse in next week’s edition of Quick Fill. This week, however, a chunk of our staff is at ZMax Dragway next door to Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina for the first round of the first-ever SuperMotocross World Championship Finals. This is a joint effort between MX Sports Pro Racing and Feld Motorsports (producers of Supercross) and we’ve got a few familiar faces lending a hand out on the track and in the FanFest areas.
The track is a bit of a hybrid mix of Supercross with some outdoor motocross style sections thrown in as well. It’s definitely a bit different than your typical Supercross event, and way different than a Pro Motocross event, so it should be really exciting to see how it all unfolds. If you’re close to Charlotte, or even far away, and want to come to the race, they still have tickets available! Just checkout supermotocross.com for more info.
Some of the GNCC track crew will be helping with the tear down and load out starting Saturday after the race and then it’s straight to Beckley to get to work on The Mountaineer. Speaking of exciting events, these last three rounds are sure to be full of some close and overall excellent racing. While Brycen Neal is sitting fairly comfortable in the hunt for the ATV championship, it’s not over yet as Hunter Hart and Cole Richardson sit second and third and still have mathematical shots at the championship if Brycen were to run into any issues… which we all know is not impossible!
On the bike side, things a wide open and really seem like they could go all the way down to Ironman if these last three rounds go like the first part of the season did. Steward Baylor and Craig Delong sit tied for the championship points lead, and Ben Kelley holds the third-place spot just four points behind! Additional, defending champion Jordan Ashburn is just 25-points out of the lead in fourth. These final three rounds have some serious potential for incredible racing as all of these guys know how to win races, and all four have either XC1, XC2, or both championships to their credit.
Since we’re wide open here in Charlotte, we’re going to keep this week’s edition of Quick Fill on the short side. Be sure to check back next week on all the latest happenings leading into The Mountaineer. It’s almost time to get back to racing. Are you ready? Enjoy your last weekend of summer break and we’ll see you back here next week!
