Racer Productions Mourns Loss of GNCC Family Member Philip Andrews
The GNCC Racing family lost an old friend this week – Philip “Phil” Andrews, age 77, father of former GNCC Champion and current team manager, Fred Andrews, and longtime racer himself, died at his home on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. Phil played an instrumental role in his son’s success in off-road racing, as Fred went on to earn two National Hare Scramble Championships and the 1993 GNCC Overall Championship. Phil was his son’s fiercest supporter, often bicycling to remote locations along the racecourse to be there just in case. Fred would also win the 1993 Blackwater 100, along with 24 more overall GNCC wins. Long before his son’s success, Phil would have his own achievement by winning the 1977 Blackwater 100 Pro class and competing in Blackwater 100 events from 1989 through 1992 in the Senior classes, always finishing inside the top five.
For nearly three decades, Phil and his wife Nancy were the owners of Andrews Cycles, a motorcycle dealership in Salem, Ohio, where they supported hundreds of amateur hopefuls in their quest for off-road accolades. After retiring in 2011, Phil and Nancy took to the highway, traveling cross country in their motor home, enjoying our nation.
In addition to his wife Nancy, Phil is survived by his son Joel (Nicki) Andrews and Fred (Amy) Andrews, five grandkids and one great granddaughter.
Friends and family will be received from 4:00-7:00 p.m. today, February 11, 2022, at Stark Memorial in Salem, Ohio. Join them for a celebration from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Italian Club for food and drinks. A meal will be provided by Mike’s Penn Grille.
Memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson’s Support Group, c/o Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Rd., Canfield, OH 44406.
