GBC Powersports Tires Named Title Sponsor for Burr Oak GNCC
Steward Baylor and Hunter Hart Aim for Another Overall Win
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (September 23, 2021) – This weekend the Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship, heads to Millfield, Ohio for the GBC Powersports Tires Burr Oak GNCC held at Sunday Creek Raceway. This event is the second GNCC held on the property this season, and with milder temperatures this weekend the battles should be in full force.
On Saturday, ATVs will headline the day with Hunter Hart Racing/Maxxis/Fly Racing’s Hunter Hart aiming to earn his second-straight win of the season. Hart is looking to put a halt in WFR/GBC Tires/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Walker Fowler success and is eager to have some redemption after finishing 10th on the property earlier this year.
JMR/GBC/Elka/Moose Racing’s Jarrod McClure finished second at the previous round in West Virginia and is looking to battle at the front of the pack once again in Ohio. This weekend McClure is hoping to continue his consistent season and hold onto that third place spot in the points standings with three rounds remaining.
Earning his first podium finish of the year two weeks ago was Feehan Racing/GBC/Fly Racing/Nine2’s Devon Feehan. This weekend Feehan will aim to keep the momentum going and run with the front of the pack for the second-straight race. Feehan has had a roller coaster season thus far, and he is looking to end the second half of the season on a high note.
Pierce Performance/GBC Tires/Fly Racing/Action Off-Road’s John Glauda Jr. edged out Fowler for fourth overall last round, and this round is looking to battle with the front runners once again. Glauda Jr. is hopeful he can maintain speed with the lead pack, and battle for what could be his first overall podium finish.
After finishing fifth overall at the previous round, his worst finish of the season, Fowler is looking to turn that around this weekend in his home state of Ohio. Fowler is more determined than ever to earn the overall win on Saturday afternoon, which could secure his seventh National Championship.
The GNCC event will begin Saturday, September 25 with ATV racing starting at 8 a.m. featuring 50cc Micro ATV racers taking to the racecourse, then the 50cc Micro bike racers at 8:45 a.m. and Youth racers at 9:30 a.m. The amateurs, 4x4 Pro and Women will kick off racing at 10 a.m. with the top amateurs and professional ATV racers lining up at 2 p.m.
Then on Sunday the Ohio woods will be taken over by amateur and professional motorcycle racers. At 1 p.m. the AmPro Yamaha-backed machine of Steward Baylor will be aiming to earn his seventh win of the season and take over the points lead by one as they would head into the last two rounds of racing.
FMF/KTM Factory Racing’s Benjamin Kelley, who currently leads the points, will be battling for his third overall win of the season to keep the points lead as the series would head into the penultimate round. Kelley has continued to hold the points lead throughout the season with his consistent finishes making it a battle to the end of the season.
Rounding out the overall podium at the previous round was Magna1 Motorsports/Husqvarna’s Jordan Ashburn. Ashburn continues to hold his third place position in the points, and he has been a consistent force at the top of the pack this year. This weekend Ashburn is hoping to battle and bump himself up into the center of the podium for his first overall win.
This weekend FMF/KTM Factory Racing’s Josh Toth and Rockstar Energy Factory Husqvarna Racing’s Thad Duvall, who rounded out the top five at the last round, are looking to improve their results. Toth is hoping to battle for a spot in the top five standings, but he will have to battle it out with some fellow competitors. Duvall who missed some races this season due to injury is steadily making his way back into the points and is aiming to finish the season out strong and battle for a podium finish.
Then on Sunday, September 26, the motorcycles will take to the woods of Ohio starting with the youth racing action at 8 a.m., women and amateur riders’ race at 10 a.m. and the pros and top amateurs will start at 1 p.m. with Yamaha’s Steward Baylor aiming to earn another win and close the points gap even more between himself and the current lead KTM’s Ben Kelley.
Over 800 Ohio native riders have raced throughout the 2021 GNCC Season, and this weekend they are looking to race in their home state. Riders hailing from Millfield, Glouster, Athens, Logan, Marietta and more will join in on the racing action on ATVs and Motorcycles.
