Yamaha Racing Snowshoe: ATV Race Report
Fowler Conquers Snowshoe Mountain

SNOWSHOE, W.Va. (June 27, 2021) – The Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship Series, returned to Snowshoe Mountain Resort for round 9, the Yamaha Racing Snowshoe GNCC. As the checkered flag flew yesterday after two grueling hours of racing it was WFR/GBC Tires/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Walker Fowler coming through to earn his fourth win on Snowshoe Mountain.

Fowler would start out his day on the first row as he currently leads the way in the points standings. As row one took off, Fowler would get off to a great start grabbing the early lead and being his push to gap the rest of the field. Fowler continued to hold onto the first place position for the duration of the race, coming through to claim his sixth win of the season, and his fourth atop the mountain.

Battling his way up to second overall was Hunter Hart Racing/Maxxis/Fly Racing’s Hunter Hart. When the race kicked off Hart found himself running in a great position to battle at the front of the pack. Hart would come through timing and scoring third on the first lap, but he would soon make his way into the second place position. Hart would continue to push as he tried to catch Fowler in the lead but would ultimately cross the finish line 41 seconds behind him. Hart continues to hold second in the points standings as the series heads into their summer break.

OBOR/Moose Racing/Parts Unlimited-backed rider Adam McGill came through to round out the top three overall finishers at Snowshoe. McGill, a West Virginia native, would start his day out from the second row and come through in fourth on the opening lap of the race. McGill continued to push throughout the race, working his way into third by lap two. McGill would come through to the checkered flag in third overall, celebrating his second podium finish of the season in his home state.

After running second on the opening lap JMR/GBC Tires/Elka/Moose Racing’s Jarrod McClure would come through to finish fourth overall on the day. McClure would continue to battle for the duration of the race, as he was just a mere three seconds behind McGill as they duo came through the finish line. McClure continues to hold onto third place in the points standings after nine races.

Earning his first top five finish of the season was Feehan Racing/GBC/Fly Racing/Nine2 Goggles’ Devon Feehan. As Feehan started from the third row of the race, he would work his way from seventh and sixth into fifth overall by the time the checkered flag flew. Pierce Performance/GBC Tires/Fly Racing/Action Off-Road’s John Glauda Jr. would come through to take sixth in the XC1 Pro class after running in that position for much of the two-hour race.

Merritt Racing/BNR Motorsports/GBC Tires’ Josh Merritt made a last lap pass to take over seventh in the XC1 Pro class after battling back in the eighth place position for the first three laps of racing. BNR Motorsports’ Kevin Yoho battled back from his 10th place start to the day to cross the finish line 8th in the XC1 class.

Battling back-and-forth the entire race was Action Off-Road/Maxxis/Demaree Motorsports/Fly Racing’s Austin Abney. After coming through ninth on the opening lap, Abney would continue to push and make the pass back to ninth on the last lap of the race. GBC Tires/Fly Racing/HMF/Yamaha’s Johnny Gallagher rounded out the top 10 in the XC1 Pro class after making the necessary passes from his 12th place start.

In the XC2 Pro-Am class it was BNR Motorsports/Senge Graphics/Houser Racing’s Ronnie Rusch coming through to earn his third win of the season. Rusch would come around in the first place position and continue to hold that, crossing the finish line with a sizable gap back to second.

Nine2 Goggles/GBC Tires/BNR Motorsports’ Tanner Walker battled back from a fifth place start to the day. Walker would come through to cross the line second in his class, earning his fifth podium of the year. BNR Motorsports/GBC Tires/Fly Racing/SSi Decal’s Kenny Shick would come through to finish third in the XC2 Pro-Am class after battling back from a seventh place start to the day.

The top amateur honors at Snowshoe went to the Junior A competitor, Jay Shadron with his sixth overall finish. Steven Harrell came through to earn the College A class win and 12th overall on the day, putting himself second on the top amateur podium. Vet A winner, Jeffrey Pickens rounded out the top three top amateurs with his 16th overall finish on the day.

In the 4x4 Pro class it was OBOR/Can-Am/DeRisi Racing’s Landon Wolfe taking the checkered flag first. Wolfe would get the early lead and not look back, as he continued to push on, he would cross the finish line two minutes ahead of his competition. Kenda Tires/BNR Motorsports/Nine2/Custom Axis’ Cody Collier battled back from his sixth place start to the day to finish second. While Can-Am/Tennessee Towing/BNR Motorsports’ Robbie Pecorari made a last lap pass to round the 4x4 Pro class podium.

In the WXC class it was Action Off-Road/Moose Racing/GBC Tires Katelyn Osburn coming through fourth on the opening lap. One-by-one Osburn would pick off the competition making her way into the lead with a last lap pass. Osburn now sits tied for first with Hannah Hurricane Hunter/OBOR Tires/Fly Racing’s Hannah Hunter who finished fourth at the event. BNR Motorsports/GBC Tires/HMF Engineering’s Jessica Elioff held the early lead as she came through first on the opening lap. However, Elioff would fall back to fourth having to make her way back through the riders to claim her second place finish in the WXC class. Kenda/HMF Engineering/Waynesburg Yamaha’s Emily Wise came through to earn he fourth podium finish of the season with a third place finish at Snowshoe.

In the Youth race it was YXC1 Super Mini Sr. class competitor, Brody Lee taking another overall win. Lee holds onto the class points lead as the series heads into its summer break until September. Ryan Wilhelm of the YXC2 Super Mini Jr. class came through to earn second overall in the youth race, and his class win. Kaden Lambruno came through to earn third overall and second in the YXC1 class.

Andre Williams battled back to earn third in YXC1, while Cody Nichols and Levi Burkemper rounded out the YXC2 class top three finishers. Austin Kiger earned the 250 (13-15) class win, with Jericho Edmondson taking the 125 (8-12) win. Ryder Reick battled back earning the 90cc (8-12) class win and Maverick Smith brought home the number one spot in the 90 Limited (8-12) class. In the Schoolgirl (13-15) class it was Tory Mittendorf taking the win, followed by Samantha Shaw earning her first win in the Girls Sr. (12-15) class. Girls Jr. (8-11) class win went to Khyler Davis, and Bryson Dickerson came through to earn the 70 CVT (6-11) class win.

In the Specialized Turbo eMTB GNCC race it was a battle down to the checkered flag once again. Gear Racewear/Specialized’s Charlie Mullins came through 2.1 seconds ahead of Gear Racewear/Specialized’s Nick Mackie. Mackie would hold the lead for the majority of the race, with Mullins coming through on the last lap to make the pass. Live It Extreme’s Kyle Smith held onto the third place position for the entire 8 laps of the eMTB race, coming through one minute back from the two front-runners.

The AMSOIL Moto Hero was awarded to Salem, Connecticut’s Dale Yommer. After being nominated by 11 individuals, everyone wrote about how deserving he was of the award due to his service and selflessness. Dale served 24 years in the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer (E7 Ranking). Dale served on many submarines, and he is now an engineer designing submarines. Dale raced in the Warrior class for active military and veterans. He goes home with a $250 AMSOIL Shopping Spree, Kanati Truck Tires from GBC, a Commemorative American Flag from Columbia Flag & Sign Co. plus a gift certificate for their online store. He also earned a pair of 100% military appreciation goggles and an ARMA Black Edition Box full of supplements and gear.

Rory Mead’s Ride for Life Fundraising Event took place on Saturday morning, concluding in the afternoon as Rory made his way up Snowshoe Mountain on his hand bike. Mead was raising money for Lucas Grounds, who like himself became paralyzed, and crossed the finish line right before the start of the Pro ATV race. The US ISDE Trophy Team Golf Tournament took place on Friday morning at The Raven Golf Club, and then an ISDE Presentation was held on Saturday evening in the village of Snowshoe featuring GNCC riders Layne Michael, Johnny Girroir, Cody Barnes and Rachel Gutish. Each rider was presented a check for $500 from Racer Productions to help is costs to head to the 2021 ISDE in Italy.
