MILLFIELD, Ohio (May 23, 2021) – The 32nd Annual Wiseco John Penton kicked off on Saturday, May 22, for round seven of the 2021 Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship. This historical event continues to be the longest running event on the GNCC circuit and was met with the usual hot and humid conditions.

As the green flag waved it would be the No. 1 machine of WFR/GBC Tires/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Walker Fowler racing to the first turn, edging out JMR/GBC/Elka/Moose Racing’s Jarrod McClure for the $100 All Balls Racing XC1 Holeshot Award. Fowler would continue to lead the pack into the woods, and throughout the first lap. However, on lap two pressure from Bneal Motorsports/CST/Houser Racing’s Brycen Neal would build until Neal was able to make the pass on Fowler for the lead.

Neal and Fowler would continue to lead the pack, and on the third lap of the 2-hour race Fowler would make his way back around Neal to take over the lead once again. Fowler would continue to push through the heat, pulling a over a minute gap between himself and the rest of the XC1 Pro competitors. After four laps of racing, Fowler was greeted with the checkered flag as he earned his fourth win of the season.

Behind Fowler things were heating up, as McClure and Action Off-Road/Kenda/Tely Energy’s Cole Richardson had moved into the second and third place positions. McClure was steadily running third majority of the race, but he would sneak through to second just before the checkered flag. Richardson was making his way up through the pack after he started out in fifth for the day. The duo was wheel-to-wheel as they made their way towards the finish line, McClure would hold his line earning second on the day with Richardson rounding out the top three overall.

Neal would battle back after an on track incident put him back in fourth place with OBOR/Moose Racing/Parts Unlimited-backed rider Adam McGill hot on his heels. Neal and McGill would cross the finish line .760 seconds apart. McGill had run a steady race, holding onto fourth early on and then fifth for the remainder of the grueling 2-hours.

FTR Graphics/Fly Racing/Nine2 Goggles’ Westley Wolfe was on a mission as he came through timing and scoring ninth on the opening lap. Wolfe would continue to pick off riders and make his way towards the top five riders. Wolfe would run out of time trying to catch the top five, but he would still have his best finish thus far in the season with a sixth overall on the day.

After running in sixth for the majority of the day, Pierce Performance/GBC Tires/Fly Racing’s John Glauda Jr. would battle with Wolfe on the last lap of race. Glauda would be unable to hold off Wolfe, but he would continue to battle him down to the checkered flag as he came through eight seconds behind him.

Earning eighth overall at round seven was CBR/GBC Motorsports/Action Off-Road/Fly Racing/AMSOIL’s Chris Borich. After facing multiple battles throughout the race, Borich would continue to hold onto his eighth place position for the duration of the race. After seven rounds of racing Borich is now tied in points with McGill.

Merritt Racing/BNR Motorsports/GBC Tires’ Josh Merritt would come through to earn ninth in XC1. After running in that 10th place spot Merritt would make a last lap pass to take over ninth in Ohio. Rounding out the top 10 in XC1 would be HHR/Maxxis/Fly Racing’s Hunter Hart. After the start of the race on lap two, Hart would have some misfortune and come through in the 12th place position. Hart would try to battle back, but he would be unable to catch the rest of the field.

In the XC2 Pro-Am class it was PirateMX.com/OBOR Tires/Moose Racing’s Brandon Owens coming through to earn his second win of the season. Owens would make his move into the lead early on in the race, holding the number one position for all four laps of racing. After some misfortune at two rounds Owens sits fourth in the championship standings.

BNR Motorsports/Senge Graphics/Houser Racing’s Ronnie Rusch would earn himself the $100 BNR Motorsports XC2 Holeshot Award after a great jump off the line. Rusch would battle with Owens throughout the duration of the race, but he would be unable to make the pass back around him. Rusch would finish second on the day, continuing to hold the lead in the points standings.

Rounding out the XC2 top three finishers was BNR Motorsports/Yamaha’s Ben Kowalewski. As the race got underway Kowalewski would have his work cut out as he came through in the sixth place position. However, he would put his head down and push and as he came through on lap two, he would have already moved into the third place position.

The John Penton’s top amateur honors went to Steven Harrell who finished 19th overall and took the win in College A. Second top amateur coming through was Jeremy LeDonne who finished 21st overall and first in the Junior A class, and third went to Jeff Pickens with a 22nd overall and Vet A class win.

In the 11 a.m. race it would be OBOR/Can-Am/DeRisi Racing’s Landon Wolfe grabbing the $100 BNR Motorsports 4x4 Pro Holeshot Award. It wouldn’t take long for Wolfe to be challenged by Kenda/BNR/Nine2/Custom Axis’ Cody Collier. Collier would move into the lead, but Wolfe would keep him in his sights. On the last lap Collier would suffer a mechanical issue and was unable to take the checkered flag. Wolfe would continue to push, crossing the finish line first and earning his fourth win of the season.

HMF Engineering/GBC Tires/BNR Motorsports’ Brandon Frazier would find himself running third for a major portion of the day, but he would come through to cross the finish line in second. Rounding out the top three 4x4 Pro finishers was Stewart Boys Racing/Action Off-Road/DeRisi Racing’s Haedyn Mickelson.

As the WXC class took off it was Fly Racing/GBC Motorsports/Yamaha Racing’s Traci Pickens getting to the line first to earn the $100 BNR Motorsports WXC Holeshot Award. However, Hannah Hurricane Hunting/OBOR Tires//Fly Racing’s Hannah Hunter was right there and ready to strike before they made it to the woods. Hunter would make her way to the lead and she would not look back. Hunter came through to finish third overall in the AM ATV race, while also earning fourth win of the season

Action Off-Road/Moose Racing/GBC Motorsports’ Katelyn Osburn battled her way back to second after starting off the day mid-pack. Osburn would continue to make the necessary passes for her to continue her way towards the front. Unfortunately, she would run out of time to try and make a battle for the lead. BNR Motorsports/GBC/HMF Engineering’s Jessica Elioff rounding out the top three in WXC. Elioff earned her first win in Florida this season, and she is eager to get another one.
