FMF KTM FACTORY RACING'S BEN KELLEY PODIUMS AT TIGER RUN GNCC

UNION, S.C. – FMF KTM Factory Racing Team’s Ben Kelley raced his way to a podium finish at Sunday’s Tiger Run GNCC, thus extending his points lead in the XC1 Open Pro Championship after five rounds of the 2021 AMA Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series.

Kelley got off to a third-place start in the XC1 Open Pro class, where he fought his way through the dusty conditions early in the race. He slowly chipped away at the gap to the front-runners ahead, bringing himself to within striking distance at the halfway point. Fighting hard in the final hour, Kelley made up solid ground but he wasn’t able to reel in the second-place rider enough to make a pass and he ultimately secured third with a strong ride.

Ben Kelley: “It was a solid race. Conditions were tough with that dust but I did the best I could. I got into third and kind of just rode there all day. I’m happy with how I rode and it was a pretty uneventful day with no crashes, which is a solid rebound after last the round. I’m looking forward to getting up north and having another go in Indiana.”

Toth got off to a mid-pack start in the XC1 Open Pro class and he ended up dropping back to 10th on the opening lap as he struggled to fight through the dust early on. He maintained 10th for the first hour of racing, which allowed him to settle in and shake off the arm pump before making his charge later in the race. He got into ninth by the halfway point and from there he upped the pace to overtake one more spot in the final laps to ultimately secure eighth for the day.

Josh Toth: “I got shuffled back through the dust and was towards the back of the pack off the start and I rode tight the first half of the race. I finally got into the groove around pit and loosened up my arms, put my head down and charged but it was a little too late at that point, I was too far back. It will just give me fuel for the next one.”

Next Race: Crawfordsville, Indiana – May 2, 2021
