Moose Racing Wild Boar Youth Race Report
Round two of the 2021 Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship, took place on March 6th and 7th in Palatka, Florida. The Moose Racing Wild Boar GNCC held at the Hog Waller’s Mud BOG & ATV is arguable one of the toughest tracks of the season.
On Saturday, it was the Youth ATV riders going to battle for the second time this season. Coming off a 6th place finish in round one at Big Buck, Brody Lee was looking to rebound. And he did just that, taking his first win of the season.
Brody, “It was a good track layout. You could really ride everything well. I got decent start, then put my head down and rode as hard as I could and came away with the win. It was my first overall win in youth and the goal this year is to do my best and try to win as much as I can.”
Kaden Lambruno kept the podium consistency rolling with another second place finish while Caden Spires finished in third place after opening the season with a win at Big Buck. The Youth Overall Championship is up for grabs and there are plenty of riders capable of becoming the next Youth Overall GNCC Champion. Rounding our the top five were Tavin Cook finishing fourth and Andre Williams in fifth in the YXC1 Super Mini Sr. Class.
The Honda rider of Quenten Gouker kept his perfect start intact, taking his second first place finish of the year. Jordon Berg finished second for the second time in two rounds of racing. Jordon has his work cut out for him this season but keep your eyes on this young man to make some moves down the stretch. Bryce Pullen got a little redemption in round two finishing in the number three spot after a DNF just a couple weeks earlier at Big Buck. Rounding out the top five in the class were Quinn Bergman in fourth and Caleb Stoops grabbing fifth on the day in the YXC2 Super Mini Jr Class.
Brian Jackson put his Yamaha center of the box in the 250 (13-15) class with Jericho Edmondson finishing second and Noah Lykins rounding out the top three. In the 90 Class it was Ryder Reick snagging his first win of the year after a third place finish at Big Buck. Bodie Buckhannon finished the day in second which had to feel good after coming off the DNF in round one and Edgardo Santini rounded out the top three.
The 90 Limited Class saw it’s second winner in two rounds of racing as Maverick Smith took the checkered flag first in class with Brayden Cox finishing second and Jeffrey Callaway rounding out the top three.
And last but not least, the 70 CVT Class. In the words of Rodney Tomblin, “pound for pound the most powerful machines out on the racetrack.” The future of GNCC saw Bryson Dickerson take his first win of the year after a DNF in round one, Jackson Hancock finished second and Abigail Pollard rounded out the top three.
In the Micro Racing action Saturday morning it was Bryson Dickerson taking his second win of the year to stay perfect in the MXC1 Class, Kody Buckhannon finished second and Reed Stevens rounded out the podium in third. Finishing fourth was Zander Rogers and Jenna Berg rounded out the top five.
Jase Strouse snagged his first win of the year in the MXC2 class after a sixth place finish in round one. Klaiton Sampson kept the podium streak and points lead alive with a second place finish and Brayden Kirouac rounded out the top three.
Little JP Pickens stayed perfect with his second win of the season in the 50 Sr Class. Beau Collins finished in the number two spot for the second race in a row and Bentley Groves rounded out the box with a third place finish. Casen Jennings in the 50 Jr Class followed JP Pickens’ example and made it two wins in a row to start the season. Cruza Steele finish second and Kolston Wilson finished in third.
The Honda of Jacob Decesare took his first win of the year while Colt Moore took second and Ryder Gaydos finished in third place after a first place finish in round one. The third place for Ryder is enough to keep the points lead heading into round three.
On Sunday the Youth Bike went to battle in the sands of Florida. It was the Magna1 Motorsports Husqvarna ride of Chase Landers who came off a fourth place finish at Big Buck and looking to change things up for round two. He was able to do that, snagging his first overall win in the Youth Class.
Chase, “It was a lot of fun. I got the holeshot, looked behind me to see who was there and then put my head down and tried to control the pace and ride my own race. Felt good to get the win! I want to come out swinging now. The goal is to make it back-to-back wins and we see where it goes from there. Obviously, I’d like to win the National Championship. Never would have thought I’d win a race down here in Florida, but I got it done today.”
The Kawasaki ride of Thor Powell had a solid day and finished with a second place in the overall.
Thor, “I nearly had the holeshot. Ended up following Chase into the woods in second. Followed him most of the first lap and then made a little mistake and hit a lapped rider. Ended up crashing. From there I put my head down and pushed as hard as I could. That’s all you can do at that point, but I’m happy. I love racing in the sand, I’m used to and it’s what I like, so yeah, today was a good day.”
Caleb Lane on the KTM rounded out the podium in third on the day.
Caleb, “I had a horrible start. Changed some things on the bike and I wasn’t really used to it. Had to be dead last coming around the first turn. Finished the first lap somewhere around eighth. Started charging and ended up coming through third. Really wanted to catch the guys up front but the bad start kind of did me in. It’s the first time I’ve ever raced here, can’t say it was my favorite but a day on the podium is always a good day.”
Rounding out the top five on the day in the YXC1 Super Mini Sr Class were Owen Barnes in fourth and Ryan Gribbin in fifth.
In the YXC2 Super Mini Jr Class Robert Weiss moved the Husqvarna up a couple spots after round one with a first place finish. Logan Crawford got some redemption with a second place finish after opening the season with an eleventh place finish in round one. Rounding out the top three was the KTM of Peyton Feather. In two rounds of racing the win has eluded Peyton, but he’s been consistent so far with a second in round one and a third in round two. Look to see him battling for wins before long.
The Yamaha of Ryder Sigety stayed perfect with his second win in a row in the 85 (12-13) Class. Linkin Bischoff took second on the day and Jake Mitchell rounded out the box in third place. The 85 (7-11) Class saw a new winner with Brayden Baisley snagging his first class win of the year. Mason Raynor finished second, which is enough to keep the points lead heading into round three. Finishing third on the day was Kamden Krause.
The 65 (10-11) class saw the KTM of Caleb Wood take his second win of the year. This kid can ride! And Caleb arguably has one of the best mullets in all of GNCC. Maybe that’s where the winning is coming from, I don’t know. Whatever it is, he’s rolling. Landon Husted finished the day in second and Ryder Reick rounded out the top three. The 65 (7-9) Class had Hunter Hawkinberry taking his second win in a row to start the year. Beau Garetson took second and Brody Boland finished in the third place position.
