(February 26, 2021) – Round one of the 2021 Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship, took place on February 20th and 21st in Union, South Carolina. On Saturday, it was the WXC ATV riders taking to the woods during the 11 a.m. race for two-hours of intense racing. As the green flag waved it was Fly Racing/GBC Motorsports/Yamaha Racing’s Traci Pickens grabbing the early lead and $100 BNR Motorsports WXC Holeshot Award. However, after two laps of racing Pickens would be unable to finish the race, earning her a 10th place finish in the class.

Right behind Pickens off the start was Hannah Hurricane Hunter/OBOR Tires/Fly Racing’s Hannah Hunter. As the pack of riders came through timing and scoring on lap one Hunter would make the pass stick on Pickens and begin to place a gap over the rest of the women. Hunter would cross the finish line with a two-plus minute gap after four laps of racing.

Earning her first WXC podium was BNR Motorsports/GBC/HMF Engineering’s Jessica Elioff. After a mid-pack start to the race, Elioff would steadily make her way into a podium contention. With the white flag waving, indicating one more lap to go, Elioff would find herself sitting second in her class. Elioff held off the competition for one more lap, earning second to kick off the 2021 season.

Action Off-Road/Moose Racing/GBC Motorsports’ Katelyn Osburn rounded out the WXC ATV podium with her third place finish in the class. Osburn had her work cut out of her after checking in on lap two in the eighth place position. As the race wore on, she would continue to push herself for that top three finish. On the last lap Osburn would make the pass stick for third, crossing the finish line 23 seconds ahead of fourth.

Rounding out the top five in the WXC ATV class were Emily Wise with an impressive fourth place finish and Ye Olde Cycle Barn/Maxxis/Fly Racing’s Alicia McCormick coming through fifth. Wise would hold her position throughout the duration of the race, battling with some top competitors on various laps. McCormick would battle back from a 10th place start on the opening lap to bring home fifth.

On Sunday it was AmPro Yamaha’s Rachael Archer grabbing the early lead after being inched out by Babbitt’s Online/Monster Energy/Kawasaki Team Green’s Korie Steede for the $100 Trail Jesters WXC Holeshot Award. Archer would continue to hold the lead for all four laps of racing, ultimately crossing the finish line with over a minute gap between herself and second place.

Coming through to earn second was BABS Racing Yamaha/Fly/Maxxis/Pro Circuit’s Becca Sheets. Sporting the number one on her Yamaha motorcycle, Sheets had to work her way back to her second place finishing position from falling back to fourth on the second lap of racing. Sheets would continue to make up time on Archer, but she would fall short of being able to battle for the season opener win.

After running second for the first two laps of racing, Factory Beta’s Rachel Gutish would come through to take the checkered flag third in the WXC class. Gutish would engage in a battle with Sheets with just two laps to go, ultimately being unable to hold her off.

Turner was able to put her head down and continue to push for the duration of the two-hour race. Returning the 2021 season is Magna1 Motorsports/Husqvarna/Rockstar Energy’s Tayla Jones. After missing the second half of the 202 season due to injury, Jones came back battling back after a bad start to finish fifth in the WXC class.
