Walker Fowler Clinches Sixth Overall ATV National Championship
Cole Richardson Earns Mason-Dixon Overall Win
MOUNT MORRIS, Pa. (October 11, 2020) – The Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship, made its return to Pennsylvania for the 11th round of racing, Parts Unlimited Mason-Dixon, at Mathews Farm in Mount Morris.
Coming through to take the overall win in his home state of Pennsylvania was Action Off-Road/Tely Energy Racing/Kenda’s Cole Richardson. After coming through on the opening lap in the fifth place position, Richardson would put his head down and push through the course. Richardson made the move into second overall as the white flag came out, and with only one lap to go he would make the pass stick for the lead. Richardson moves into a tie for second overall in the points standings as two rounds remain on the schedule.
WFR/GBC/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Walker Fowler battled at the front of the pack throughout the two-hour race, leading the way for the first part of the race. Fowler would engage in a battle with Richardson for the lead on the last lap, with Richardson making the pass stick for the lead. Fowler would hold onto second overall, earning enough points to clinch his sixth-straight GNCC ATV National Championship.
Earning third overall on the day, and his third-straight podium finish was McGill Mafia/OBOR Tires/LSR/Moose Racing’s Adam McGill. After one lap of racing, McGill found himself running back in the fourth place position. However, as he came through timing and scoring on the second lap, he would hold the last podium finishing position. McGill would continue to push, coming through the finish 34 seconds ahead of fourth.
HHR/Maxxis/Fly Racing/Ithaca Recreation Sports’ Hunter Hart worked his way up through the pack after starting out the day eighth in the XC1 Pro class. Hart would steadily work his way through the pack of riders, making his way into fourth by the time the white flag came out indicating one more lap to go. Hart would cross the finish line fourth overall on the day in Pennsylvania.
After getting a good jump off the line, Phoenix Honda Racing’s Chris Borich came through timing and scoring in the second place position. Borich would fall back to fifth by the second lap of racing, and he would remain there until the checkered flag flew. JMR/GBC/Elka/Moose Racing’s Jarrod McClure would make the move into sixth at the halfway point of the afternoon race. McClure sits fourth in the points standings as the seasons end draws nearer.
GBC/Fly Racing/HMF/Yamaha’s Johnny Gallagher came through to take seventh in the XC1 Pro class, and ninth overall on the day. Gallagher did not get the best start to the day but would work his way up from an 11th place start to grab seventh in XC1. After grabbing the All Balls Racing XC1 holeshot award to start the day CST/Houser Racing/Waynesburg Yamaha’s Brycen Neal would run into some mechanical issues costing him valuable time in the race. Neal would fall from first to ninth after having to make a long pit stop to change an air filter. Neal crossed the line eighth in XC1 and 12th overall on the day.
Covert Racing/Custom Axis/Waynesburg Yamaha’s Greg Covert and BNR Motorsports/GBC/HMF Engineering’s Joshua Merritt rounded out the top 10 finishers in the XC1 Pro class. Covert would finish out the race after four complete laps of racing. Unfortunately for Merritt he was only able to complete two laps of racing, but it would be enough for him to grab 10th in the XC1 class.
LanMills XC/WFR/Magna1 Lubricants’ Drew Landers would battle throughout the day crossing the line second. However, after an on-track penalty Landers would be awarded the XC2 class win. Action Off-Road/Maxxis/Demaree Motorsports’ Austin Abney would be credited with a second place finish in the XC2 class. The battle between Landers and Abney for the XC2 Championship will head to Ironman in two weeks. BNR Motorsports/GBC/Fly Racing/Nine2’s Tanner Walker came back from an eighth place start to the day, coming through to take third in the XC2 class.
College A’s Steven Harrell took his second-straight Top Amateur honors this weekend with a 15th overall. Fellow College A competitors Tre Seiffert and Chase Allison rounded out the top three amateur honors with Seiffert coming through in 17th overall and Allison with a 19th overall.
In the 4x4 Pro class it was OBOR/Can-Am/Derisi Racing/Action Sports’ Landon Wolfe getting a good jump off the line and running at the front of the pack. Wolfe would hold a 56 second lead as they came through timing and scoring on the opening lap. As Wolfe continued to make his way through the course, he would continue to increase the gap between his competitors and himself. Wolfe came through to clinch his second-straight 4x4 Pro National Championship.
Can-Am/BNR/Kenda/Tire Blocks/HMF’s Robbie Pecorari battled his way up to second in the 4x4 Pro class after starting out third on the opening lap. Pecorari remains second in the points standings with two rounds of racing remaining in the season. Phoenix Honda Racing’s Haedyn Mickelson rounded out the 4x4 Pro class podium after battling throughout the duration of the race. Mickelson would make the pass for third with two laps to go. As the checkered flag came out Mickelson would cross the line to land on the Pro podium.
In the WXC class it was Malaska Motorsports/HMF/Cecco Racing’s Hannah Hunter battling her way to another class win. Hunter jumped out to the early lead but would soon be faced with a battle from Fly Racing/GBC Motorsports/Yamaha Racing’s Traci Pickens. Hunter and Pickens would battle throughout the two-hour race, with Pickens making a pass as the white flag came out. However, Hunter would put her head down and push making a last lap pass back on Pickens to take over the lead once again.
Action Off-Road/GBC/Moose Racing’s Katelyn Osburn would battle with the top two riders, running second in the class for the first half of the race. As the white flag flew Osburn found herself holding onto the last podium position of WXC. When the checkered flag flew, she was able to hold onto third in the WXC class.
Coming through to take the youth overall win and earn the Youth ATV National Championship was West Virginia’s Tyler Cox. After 11 rounds of racing Cox earned six overall wins thus far in the season, clinching the youth title two rounds early. Battling his way to second overall was Charlie Stewart. Stewart earned second in the YXC1 Super Mini Sr. class, and currently sits tied in the points for second in his class. Nicholas Dearing brought home third overall and in his class. Dearing came through to earn third overall on the day and is looking to battle for second in the points standings at the last two rounds of racing.
Hunter Hawkinberry made the move to MXC1 in the Bike Micro race after clinching the MXC2 class championship early. Hawkinberry would come through to capture the overall win with Gavin Harwell and Beau Garetson rounding out the top three overall and top three in MXC1.
In the ATV Micro race, it was Bodie Buckhannon taking his eighth MXC1 win of the season after wrapping up his ATV Micro Overall National Championship at the previous round in Ohio. Kaleb Shay battled his way to second overall in the race with Khyler Davis working her way up to third overall to round out the overall and MXC1 podium. In the MXC2 class it was Bryson Dickerson taking the win followed by Jase Strouse earning the 50cc Sr. class win and fifth overall.
The final round of the Specialized Turbo eMTB GNCC National Championship took place on Saturday afternoon. It was Specialized/Gear Cycle Sales’ Charlie Mullins coming through to take the win and earning his second-straight National Championship in the eMTB discipline. Live It Extreme’s Kyle Smith didn’t make it easy on Mullins this season, capturing a win at Loretta’s and making the championship battle go down to the last round of racing. Smith finished second overall, and he finishes second in the points standings. William Pegram battled his way to third overall on the day, finishing out the season fourth in the points standings.
