High Voltage GNCC: ATV Race Report
Walker Fowler Earns 60th Career Win

MAIDSVILLE, W.Va. (July 12, 2020) – The 2020 Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship, made its last stop before summer break in Maidsville, West Virginia for the 2nd Annual High Voltage GNCC. WFR/GBC/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Walker Fowler came through to clinch his 60th career overall ATV win.

Fowler grabbed the $100 All Balls Racing XC1 Holeshot Award as the green flag waved, and headed in the woods first. Fowler would continue to hold the lead position for the duration of the two-hour race, coming through over a minute ahead of the competition. As the GNCC Series heads into its summer break Fowler remains first in the points standings, with a 61 point lead over second.

Battling through the pack was CST/Houser Racing/Waynesburg Yamaha’s Brycen Neal, who started back in the fourth place position on lap one. Neal would move into second overall on lap two of the race, and would continue to push throughout the remainder of the race trying to catch Fowler. Neal would close up the gap on lap three and four, but would be unable to challenge Fowler for the round eight win.

Action Off-Road/Tely Energy Racing/Kenda’s Cole Richardson rounded out the top three overall after battling not only his fellow competitors, but track conditions as well. Richardson expressed in his post-race interview that he had a couple of crashes throughout the race, setting him off the pace of the two front-runners. Richardson would try to make a last lap push, but would only be able to close the gap to 16 seconds between himself and Neal as the checkered flag flew.

Earning fourth overall was JMR/GBC/Elka/Moose Racing’s Jarrod McClure. As the pack made their way around on lap one, McClure came through battling in the third place position. McClure would ensue in a battle on the second lap, ultimately moving him back to the fourth place position. McClure would focus on trying to move back into podium contention, but would fall just 8 seconds short. As the series heads into summer break, McClure sits fourth in the points standings.

McGill Mafia/Obor Tires/LSR/Moose Racing’s Adam McGill would hold onto fifth overall for the duration of the race, as he came through on the opening lap trying to hold off Phoenix Honda Racing’s Chris Borich back in the sixth place position. McGill and Borich would battle throughout the day, but both would hold onto the positions that they started out the day in.

Coming through to take seventh overall was HHR/Maxxis/Fly Racing/Ithaca Recreation Sports’ Hunter Hart. Hart would make an early pass to take over seventh from his eighth place start to the day. Hart would push to battle with McGill and Borich, but would eventually settle into seventh until the checkered flag flew.

BNR Motorsports/GBC/HMF Engineering’s Joshua Merritt moved into the eighth place position on the second lap of racing, and continued to put his head down and push for the remaining three laps. Merritt has consistently finished inside the top 10 overall at the first eight rounds of racing, and holds onto eighth in the points standings.

After experiencing a DNF at the previous round, Pierce Performance/GBC Tires/Fly Racing’s John Glauda Jr. came back to battle for a top 10 finish. Glauda Jr. came through to take ninth in the XC1 Pro class, and 10th overall on the day. Wolfe Racing/Nine2/FTR Graphics/Ye Olde Cycle Barn’s Westley Wolfe rounded out the top 10 in the XC1 Pro class, and would finish 12th overall at the High Voltage GNCC. Glauda Jr. and Wolfe hold onto the 9th and 10th place in the XC1 Pro points standings.

In the XC2 Pro-Am class it was Pirate MX Powersports/OBOR Tires’ Brandon Owens coming through to earn his first-ever XC2 class win. Owens would make the pass on lap three, and would not look back. Owens put his head down and pushed to place a gap over the XC2 front-runners, coming through timing & scoring 17 seconds ahead of the competition. Owens has been a consistent competitor all season, and currently sits third in the points standings.

After grabbing the XC2 Pro-Am class holeshot, Action Off-Road/Maxxis/Bud Lubricants’ Austin Abney would lead the way for the first two laps of racing. As the race wore on, Abney and Owens would battle at the front of the pack. Abney would be unable to retaliate and make a pass stick on Owens for the lead. Abney would cross the line second in the XC2 class, and is now tied for first in the points standings.

LanMills XC/WFR/Magna1 Lubricants’ Drew Landers started out his day fourth in the class, but would soon make the move into third. Landers would have his sight set on the front, and push to try to make a mid-race move. However, Landers would be unable to make a move stick and he would cross the line third in the XC2 class.

Phoenix Honda Racing's Grayson Eller brought home the Top Amateur honors at the High Voltage GNCC after finishing 17th overall. Eller also earned his fifth College A class win. Tre Seiffert came through to take second in the College A class, and atop the Top Amateur podium. Vet A rider, Jeff Pickens came through to earn third on the Top Amateur podium with a 22nd overall finishing position and first place in his class. 

Grabbing the $100 BNR Motorsports Holeshot Award was OBOR/Can-Am/Derisi Racing/Action Sports’ Landon Wolfe. Coming through timing and scoring on lap one Wolfe held the lead and continued to hold the lead. Wolfe would push as the white flag flew, placing over a two minute gap on the field and earning his eighth straight win of the season.

Battling his way through the 11 a.m. riders was Pierce Performance/Moose Racing/Five Six O Graphics’ Cody Collier. After an 11th place start to the day, Collier would put his head down and push for the remaining laps. Collier would make a last lap pass to move into second in the 4x4 Pro class, earning his fifth podium finish of 2020.

Coming through to take the third and final podium position in the 4x4 Pro class was Can-Am/BNR/Kenda/Tire Blocks/HMF’s Robbie Pecorari. After running second for the majority of the race, but Pecorari would face a battle on the final lap of racing and be unable to hold off his fellow competitor. Pecorari sits third in the points standings as the GNCC Series heads into their summer break.

In the WXC class it was Malaska Motorsports/HMF/Cecco Racing’s Hannah Hunter earning her seventh win of the season. Hunter would jump out to the early lead, but would soon ensue in a battle with fellow WXC competitor, Ye Olde Cycle Barn/Maxxis/Fly Racing’s Alicia McCormick. Hunter would make the pass for the lead once again on the third lap, and would remain there until she met the checkered flag.

Fly Racing/GBC Motorsports/Yamaha Racing’s Traci Pickens raced her way to a second place finish in the WXC class. Pickens would find herself back in third for two laps of the race, but would soon make the move into second and push to battle with Hunter at the front of the pack. Pickens would ultimately be unable to make a pass on Hunter, and would cross the finish line second.

Making a last lap pass to take third in the WXC class was Action Off-Road/GBC/Moose Racing’s Katelyn Osburn. After coming through fourth on the opening lap Osburn would make her way up to battle with McCormick, who had moved into the third place position, on the last lap and would make the pass stick as the duo came around. Osburn remains third in the WXC points standings.

In the Schoolboy Sr. (14-17) class it was Layne McCormick coming through to earn the class win, followed by a second place overall finish in the 11 a.m. race. James Glauda and Keaton Henderson would come through to clinch second and third in the Schoolboy Sr. class and would come through fifth and sixth overall out of 221 riders in the 11 a.m. race.

Nick Dearing jumped out to the early lead in the YXC1 Super Mini Sr. and youth race at 8 a.m. yesterday. Dearing would continue to hold onto that lead overall and in his class for the duration of the race. Dearing earned his fourth overall win and YXC1 class win of the season. Dearing sits fourth in the points standings after eight rounds of racing.

Tyler Cox came through second overall in the youth race, and in class at the High Voltage GNCC. Cox sits in the points lead by one point over fellow YXC1 competitor, Charlie Stewart. Morgan Johnson earned third overall in the youth race, and third in the YXC1 Super Mini Sr. class after one hour of racing.

In the YXC2 class it was Brody Pullen taking the class win followed by Tavin Cook and Bryson Lee rounding out the top three finishers. Bryce Pullen landed the 125 Jr. class win, with Caden Johnson taking the 125 Sr. class win. Eli Tate from Fairmont, WV came in to take the 90cc (8-12) class win, and Dalen Lane took home the 90 Limited class win. Alyssa Rodgers earned the Girls Jr. class win, along with Anna Nicely clinching the Girls Sr. class win. Addisyn Slocum came through to take the 70 CVT class win.

In the Micro ATV division it was Bodie Buckhannon coming through to take the overall win, along with the MXC1 class win. Buckhannon earned his fifth win of the season, and remains in the points lead after eight rounds of racing.

Khyler Davis battled her way to second overall in the Micro ATV race, and in the MXC1 class. Davis continues to hold the second place position in the points standings. Bryson Dickerson came through third overall from the second row in the MXC2 class. Dickerson earned his first MXC2 class win of the season, and moves into fourth in the points standings for that class.

In the Bike Micro division it was Gavin Harwell battling his way to a first overall finishing position and first in the MXC1 class. This is Harwell’s second-straight overall bike micro win of the season, as well as his second-straight class win. Harwell continues to sit second in the points standings in the MXC1 class.

Colby Goodman came through to take second overall in the bike micro race as well as the MXC1 class. Goodman has earned five wins thus far in the season, and is the current points leader in the MXC1 class. Ace Tokar moved his way to third overall from the second row, also finishing first in the MXC2 class at round eight. This is Tokar’s first class win of the season in the MXC2 class.
