Cole Richardson Earns First Overall Win of The Season

MT. MORRIS, Pa. (June 14, 2020) – The Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship, continued its 2020 season with round six of racing at High Point Raceway in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania with the Dunlop High Point GNCC.

Action Off-Road/Tely Energy Racing/Kenda’s Cole Richardson came away to take the overall win after a grueling two-hour race in his home state of Pennsylvania. Richardson was off to a great start coming through timing and scoring in second place, and would continue that great ride as he set his sights on that number one spot. Richardson would have luck on his side has he made the necessary passes on the last lap to take over the lead and come through first to meet the checkered flag.

Earning second overall on the day was current points leader WFR/GBC/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Walker Fowler. As the day started out Fowler was off to a fourth place start, and would have his work cut out for him as the day went on. Fowler moved into second as the white flag flew and would hold onto that position until the end. Fowler continues to hold the lead in the National Championship points standings.

Rounding out the top three overall at High Point was CST/Houser Racing/Waynesburg Yamaha’s Brycen Neal. As the race started Neal found himself fifth on the opening lap, but would put his head down and push throughout the remaining two-hours. Neal made a last lap pass to take over the final podium position, and continue holding onto the second place in the points.

After leading the first part of the race, JMR/GBC/Elka/Moose Racing’s Jarrod McClure would cross the finish line fourth overall. Coming into the final lap McClure held a 2.2 second lead over the rest of the pack, however luck was not on his side and by the time the checkered flag came out McClure was making his way around behind Neal.  

Phoenix Honda Racing’s Chris Borich came through to earn a top five position on the day. Borich began the day running up in the third place position, but would soon face a hard-fought battle. After falling back to fifth, Borich would hold onto that position for the remaining laps of the race. After six rounds of racing Borich currently sits fifth in the championship standings.

McGill Mafia/Obor Tires/LSR/Moose Racing’s Adam McGill worked his way to sixth overall after starting back in the ninth place position. After the opening lap McGill would push through the remainder of the race to keep his seventh place standings in the XC1 Pro class. Pierce Performance/GBC Tires/Fly Racing’s John Glauda Jr. ran in the seventh place position for the duration of the race.

Coming in eighth in XC1 was HHR/Maxxis/Fly Racing/Ithaca Recreation Sports’ Hunter Hart. Hart would swap the eighth place position multiple times throughout the day, but would ultimately end his day in that same spot. Wolfe Racing/Nine2/FTR Graphics/Ye Olde Cycle Barn’s Westley Wolfe finished out the day ninth in the class after a grueling two-hour race. BNR Motorsports/GBC/HMF Engineering’s Josh Merritt rounded out the top 10 in the XC1 Pro class.

In the XC2 Pro-Am class it would be Action Off-Road/Maxxis/Demaree Motorsports’ Austin Abney coming through to earn the class win after running in second place for majority of the day. Abney currently sits second in the points standings, just 16 back from first place.

Pirate MX Powersports/Obor Tire's Brandon Owens held the early lead in the class, but after battling throughout the day he would come through to finish in the second place position. LanMills XC/WFR/Magna1 Lubricants’ Drew Landers rounded out the top three finishers in the XC2 class, but remains in the points lead after six rounds of racing.

In the 4x4 Pro class it was OBOR/Can-Am/Derisi Racing/Action Sports’ Landon Wolfe earning his sixth-straight win of the season. Wolfe move into the lead position on the opening lap, and remain there until the checkered flag flew. Wolfe would face a battle with Schoolboy Sr. racer Layne McCormick for the overall win. McCormick would come through to take away the overall win with his adjusted time.

Pierce Performance/Moose Racing/Five Six O Graphics’ Cody Collier would hold the second place position in the 4x4 Pro class for the duration of the race. Collier would finish out the day third overall, and currently remains second in the points standings.

Can-Am’s Ronald Varndell rounded out the top three finishers in the 4x4 Pro class, after a mid-pack start had him battling through the pack. This is Varndell’s best finish thus far in the 2020 season.

After four laps and two hours of racing it was Malaska Motorsports/HMF/Cecco Racing’s Hannah Hunter coming through to earn her fifth WXC class win of the season. Hunter started out her day in fifth, and steadily moved up throughout the race. Hunter continues to hold onto the points lead in the WXC class.

Fly Racing/GBC Motorsports/Yamaha Racing’s Traci Pickens finished up second after making the pass stick on the white flag lap. Pickens holds down the second place position after the completion of six rounds of racing. Action Off-Road/GBC Moose Racing’s Katelyn Osburn rounded out third after running in the first place position at the halfway point in the race.

Taking home the youth overall honor was Ty McGaughey in the YXC2 Super Mini Jr. class. Charlie Stewart and Tyler Cox rounded out the top three overall youth riders in the 8 a.m. morning race. Stewart took home the YXC1 class win with Cox and Morgan Johnson rounding out the top three. Rounding out the YXC2 class top three were Brody Pullen and Tavin Cook.

In the Micro ATV race, it would be Bodie Buckhannon of the MXC1 class battling to the end for an overall win with Khyler Davis, MXC1, and Reed Stevens, MXC2, rounding out the top three overall. The Micro Bike top spot went to Hunter Hawkinberry from the second line of the MXC2 class followed by Logan Shafer in MXC1 and Ace Tokar of the MXC2 class rounding out the top three.

Round three of the Specialized Turbo eMTB GNCC National Championship took place on Saturday evening with Specialized/Gear Racewear’s Charlie Mullins taking the overall win. Coming through to earn second overall was Specialized’s Seth Stevens followed by Kyle Smith in the XC1 Pro class.
